The True Cost of "Cheap" Clothes. 📉👕

We often look at the price tag on a t-shirt, but we rarely see the global price tag of production.

According to the UNEP, the mass production of petroleum-derived synthetic fibres has artificially lowered the cost of modern clothing. This cheapness has fueled an unprecedented explosion in consumption.

Just look at the numbers: 🔴 In 2002, global production was 28 million tonnes. 🔴 By 2017, that number more than doubled to 61.4 million tonnes.

This "allure of fast fashion" means we are buying more, wearing less, and discarding faster. The result? Enormous volumes of textiles ending up in landfills, creating a major source of plastic leakage into our environment.

We cannot produce our way out of this. The challenge now is shifting from a linear "take-make-waste" model to a true circular economy.

It's time to rethink our relationship with what we wear.
