A wonderful taste of the Kent countryside has arrived at Peter's Produce!

Our Purple Kent Cobnuts are a traditional local seasonal treat, with their distinctive reddish-purple husks hiding a fresh, creamy nut inside.

Unlike the dried hazelnuts you may be used to, freshly harvested cobnuts have a crisp, succulent texture and a mild, slightly sweet, nutty flavour. As the season progresses, they gradually become firmer and develop a richer flavour.

Never tried a fresh cobnut? Here's how to eat them:

🌿 Pull away the leafy outer husk
🔨 Crack open the shell with a nutcracker
🌰 Remove the kernel
😋 Eat it fresh and raw – it's as simple as that!

They're also delicious lightly roasted, chopped into salads, added to a cheese board or sprinkled over yoghurt and desserts.

🧅 PICKLING ONION SEASON IS HERE! 🧅

There’s nothing quite like a jar of homemade pickled onions – crisp, tangy and perfect alongside cold meats, cheese or a ploughman’s !

We now have Pickling Onions in stock, along with Driver’s Ready Spiced Malt Pickling Vinegar – everything you need to get your pickling underway.

4kg bags of pickling onions and jars of vinegar are also available to buy individually.

Driver’s vinegar comes ready spiced, so there’s no need to make your own vinegar blend – simply prepare your onions, pack into sterilised jars and cover with vinegar.

A 1050ml jar of vinegar will pickle approximately 1.5–2kg of onions, depending on the size of your onions and jars.

💡 Pickling tip: Salt your peeled onions overnight, rinse and dry them the following day, then pack into sterilised jars and completely cover with vinegar. Leave for around 4–8 weeks for that delicious traditional pickled-onion flavour.
