LOCAL WINE ALERT! 🚨

Tomorrow join us as we start stocking on our shelves wine from Bayford’s (yes, Bayford!) new winery The Fold Winery. From 1pm - 3pm, Dan who founded the company, will be in the shop offering tastings of their first batch of Bacchus and Solaris.

The Fold is a small batch winery based in Bayford, mere miles from Hertford. They make a range of wines, crafting and experimenting with their processes to find the best expressions of english wine.

Can’t wait to stock them, taste them and celebrate a brilliant new local business 🍾💛

Creative Writing Class. Next Tuesday at The Book and Bottle.

Join us for a fun, friendly creative writing workshop. led by The Story Sanctuary where poems provide the spark, but the writing takes centre stage. Through a series of playful prompts and exercises, you’ll discover fresh ideas, experiment with words, and see where your imagination leads you.

Whether you write regularly or haven’t picked up a pen in years, you’re warmly welcome. There’s no pressure to read your work aloud—just plenty of encouragement, creativity, and the chance to enjoy writing in the beautiful surroundings of The Book and Bottle.
Come curious, leave with new ideas (and hopefully a few pages you’re rather pleased with).

Last night we held our first Wine, Cheese & Book Tasting Evening at The Book and Bottle, hosted with our friends Janette at ‘A Little Bit of Cheese’ and ‘Will from CAVAVIN’.

We treated our guests to five beautifully paired wines and cheeses, along with some fun book choices to complete the pairings. 🧀🍷📚

We certainly enjoyed ourselves and cannot wait to do it all again soon!! It was also a joy to get three independent Hertford businesses together to create something special for the community.

A Little Bit of Cheese is run by Hertford’s local cheesemonger Janette. She specialises in handmade British and Irish artisan cheeses.

NEXT SUNDAY…. Storytime with author of the Shirley Murley series, Su Murley.

Su will be joining us for an interactive storytime ideal for under 6’s, on Sunday 9th August. Doors open at 10am with storytime at 10.15am.

Do come along for a chat and find out how she created her swirly, twirly, curly character ‘Shirley Murley’. Having entertained friends and family over the years with her comical rhymes, Su is now writing rhyming children’s picture books which are enjoyed by the whole family. See if you can manage the killer tonguetwister in ‘Shirley Murley’ and follow the adventures of Shirley and her adorable dog Trevor in ‘Shirley Murley and Clever Trevor’.

With lots of things hidden in the illustrations to spot throughout these delightful books, they are sure to become firm favourites whether being enjoyed by a new reader alone, or during a storytime together.
