Happy new year to all our wonderful customers. We reopen on 2nd of January. You have seen the back now here’s the front view of my Hardingfele, finished at the end of last year . More interesting instrument to come this year ….. watch this space

An exciting project is coming to its conclusion at Hexham violin shop . Being inspired by Scandinavian music recently I have undertaken the fascinating project of making a Hardingfele or hardanger fiddle. As my first Hardanger fiddle it has been a learning experience , concerning the decoration (pen& ink & gold highlights) . Not to mention 5 extra resonating strings. Im glad to say it’s up and playing after countless hours of careful work. A playing colleague has named it the Henish Hardanger , which is quite apt I think

Cello back in progress: did you know that those unfortunate shavings that don’t make it into the final cello can be used to polish the maple wood of the back to a brilliantly silky shine . Perfect for accepting the ground preparation . Works for any woodworking situation. Far superior to sand paper. Why not give it a try over the holidays ,
