Not all pianos are built the same, whilst cosmetically they may look similar. We always recommend choosing a piano with a solid spruce soundboard, because solid wood is cut from a single piece of timber, the grain runs continuously. This allows sound waves to travel smoothly and efficiently, resulting in better sustain and complex harmonics.
Laminated soundboards restrict the wood's natural ability to flex and vibrate. This dampens volume and produces a flatter, less vibrant sound.
