Our Crochet Pumpkins Workshop is coming up in October, with sessions on Saturday 3 October and Saturday 17 October.

This is an improvers' crochet workshop, so it's best suited to anyone who can already crochet and would like a seasonal project to build on those skills. You'll be making a large crochet pumpkin, with the yarn and stuffing provided on the day.

It's a lovely workshop if you enjoy making decorations you can bring out year after year, and it gives you a chance to practise shaping and finishing on a manageable project.

You'll need to bring your own 4mm and 5mm hooks, along with a yarn needle and scissors.

You can find the details and book here:

There’s nothing more frustrating than reaching into your project bag and finding your hook has slipped out and your last stitch has started to unravel.

A locking stitch marker is such a simple little tool, but it can save a lot of fiddling later. Pop one through the loop before you put your crochet away, and your project will be much easier to pick up again when you come back to it.

There are some other ways to keep your crochet safe over on the blog. https://buff.ly/tOusViz

Here’s a quick reminder of what will be happening in the shop during the week:

Yarnstravaganza goodie bags when you spend over £30.

A daily golden ticket to win a special goodie bag.

A yarn swap table, if you’d like to bring something from your stash and see what catches your eye.

The event runs from Saturday 26 September to Saturday 3 October.

It’s Monday, which means it’s time for Makers Monday.

Our featured make this week is from Sandra, I love the stripes and these will make a wonderful gift when finished.

What are you working on this week?

Whether you’ve just cast on, you’re halfway through or you’ve finally finished, we’d love to see it.

And don’t wait until it’s perfect. A work in progress, a first attempt or a project that’s been sitting in the bag for months is just as welcome as a finished one.

Share a photo in the comments and tell us what you’re making. Next Monday we’ll feature one of the projects shared in this week’s comments.

If you've been thinking about learning something new, or finally getting help with a technique that's been holding you back, we have a full programme of classes and workshops coming up this autumn.

There are beginner sessions for knitting and crochet, seasonal crochet workshops, children's crochet classes and more focused knitting courses for socks and a first sweater.

The small group format means there's time to ask questions and work at a sensible pace. You don't need to know everything before you come. That's rather the point of a class.

If you like the idea of a crochet blanket but don’t want to spend ages working out yarn quantities, this is exactly the sort of project where a pack can be helpful.

Our Sirdar 5203 Crochet Blankets Project Pack includes the Snuggly DK yarn and pattern needed to make the V Stitch blanket.

One useful detail is that some of the original shades in the pattern have been discontinued, so we’ve chosen the closest current shades for the pack. That means you’re not left trying to work out substitutions before you can begin.

It’s a good option if you want a proper crochet project with the planning already done for you.

Some projects are useful because of what they become. Others are enjoyable because they’re a little bit different from the start.

The King Cole Yummy Bouquet is a crochet blanket kit, but with a twist. The finished blanket can be gathered into the shape of a bouquet of flowers, so it’s both a practical make and something a bit unusual.

The kit includes a 600g yarn cake and the crochet pattern, so you just need a 6mm crochet hook to get started.

I’d suggest this for someone who enjoys crochet blankets but fancies a project that feels a bit more playful, or for a gift where the presentation is part of the fun.
