Our team really loves to cycle !!!

In 2011 (15 years ago this week!) Gordon from Rebuild With Hope Wigan and the Wigan Cycle Project was celebrating cycling from London to Paris (on a fixie of all bikes!) with some friends and family to help raise money for charity.

To make it even more worthwhile, he had only just recovered from a serious bike accident where he was involved in a high speed collision with a drunk driver.

The trip was a success with some very fond memories and stories of the joys and struggles of the adventure still being enjoyed in conversation to this day.

What has been your most memorable charity bike adventure?

This is Richard Roberts who called into the Earlestown Cycle Project in need of help while traveling from Land's End to John O'Groats. We managed to get him sorted and sent him on his way with all the emergency equipment he may need if his tubeless tyre got another big hole! This just shows how important the small independent bike shops are for the local community and national travelers. Well done Richard...

🚲 Happy World Bicycle Day! 🌍

The bicycle remains one of humanity's most remarkable inventions - simple, versatile, affordable, healthy, and sustainable.

Whether it's getting to work, exploring new places, improving wellbeing, or simply bringing a smile to your face, few things offer so much with such a light footprint on our planet.

Today we're celebrating everyone who rides, repairs, donates, refurbishes, and champions cycling.

Here's to a mode of transport and recreation that continues to change lives, build communities, and help create a greener future in Wigan & Leigh.

Keep pedalling. πŸ’š

πŸŒΏπŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ Mental Health Awareness Week - A Message from Wigan Cycle Project in partnership with Rebuild With Hope Wigan

As we come to the end of Mental Health Awareness Week, we’ve taken time to pause rather than post.

The cycling community in Wigan has been carrying a heavy heart following the tragic loss of a cyclist recently. Our deepest condolences go to their family, friends, loved ones, and to everyone in the community and emergency services who have been affected.

In moments like this, Wigan shows its true character - a community that comes together in solidarity, compassion, and strength.

Cycling has always been more than movement. It’s freedom, connection, and a way to breathe again when life feels heavy. Wigan is the largest urban green space in the UK, and there is no better way to experience its beauty, calm, and open spaces than on a bicycle. Nature and movement are powerful tools for our mental wellbeing and they’re right here on our doorstep.

This week is a reminder to look after ourselves and each other.

Check in on your fellow cyclists.

Ride together.

Talk openly.

Be present for the people around you.

Su***de remains one of the biggest killers in our nation, and too many people struggle in silence. We need more mentally healthy people, more safe spaces, and more moments of connection and cycling can be one of those lifelines.

As professional cyclist Phil Gaimon once said:
β€œOn the bike, the World gets quiet enough that you can hear yourself again.”

Let’s keep looking out for one another - on the road, on the trails, and in life.

If you’re struggling, please reach out. You’re not alone, and this community is stronger when we ride together. The kettle is always on at The Cycle Project and we're always here for a chat πŸ’šπŸš΄β€β™€οΈ

✌️🌍 Active travel starts with a choice.

Choice A - can the journey be made on foot?
Choice B - could it be done by bicycle?
Choice C - can public transport get you there?
Choice D - then take the motor vehicle.

Small changes in how we travel can create healthier people, stronger communities and a more sustainable future.

Who spotted the Chatty Bus on Standishgate, Wigan today? We were there, and also proud to take part in Rebuild With Hope Wigan Spring Festival Day at the Community Hub in the Grand Arcade Shopping Centre, Wigan. The place was absolutely rammed with positive conversations around reuse, cycling and community sustainability.

Great to spend time with Be Well Wigan too - our values around active travel, wellbeing and community support are so closely aligned.

Mind Body Health doing a great thing for an alternative health and wellbeing offer in Wigan & Leigh, go check them out βœ…

Stay tuned to see how we’ll continue supporting communities across Wigan and Leigh throughout the rest of 2026 and beyond with affordable cycle repairs, servicing and bike sales. 🚲🌍

Have you seen the Benedict Cumberbatch video about the cyclist argument? 🚲

It got us thinking at the Wigan Cycle Project if we want safer, kinder roads in our villages, towns and cities, what can we as cyclists do better too?

More patience? Better visibility? More respect for shared spaces? What do you think?

Sustainable travel starts with community, understanding and looking out for one another.
