I'll be opening up the Vault on Sunday for market day in Holt, prior to departing the stage for a fortnight. The magnificent Serene Sarah has kindly agreed to open the shop on the Fridays and Saturdays of my absence, but we'll be CLOSED on the next pair of Wednesdays and Thursdays. Normal service resumes from Wed 23rd, when I hope to be able to announce a decision on the future of the shop in Holt. See you soon x

Billy would've been 80 today. Easier to list those he didn't play alongside than those he did. A force of nature who left us 20 years ago. If you don't believe me, try delving into that concert on the roof (you know the one) and you'll see what might have been if the bassist had only listened to the rhythm guitarist.

I am fresh from one at the weekend. The best DJ set I ever did, and possibly ever will. Happiness beyond measure in holding the stage for a golden hour and then sharing it for another with a guy half my age but at least twice as drunk as I had even dared to be the day before, for the so-called "formal" bit.

Like Dave here I have always believed in magic, but now I have a new, relatable context for that belief. It would not be appropriate to share family pictures here to prove it, but profound thanks and endless love to all of who made it happen. You guys who danced like dervishes to Kung Fu Fighting. You know who you are. See you soon xx

New beginnings?

Full DJ set up now available in the Rock & Soul room.

A few house rules:

No headphones (unless you bring them) as they are generally pointless in a DJ context

No excessive k**b twiddling as it's also generally pointless in a DJ context

No switching off the gear when you're done as it's completely pointless (leave it to me to throw the wall switch)

No putting records away roughly where you found them as its completely pointless unless you return them to EXACTLY where you found them, which may also in fact be pointless but at least it won't be your fault if you're merely replicating the mistakes of your predecessors as customers

No pretending to be Fatboy Slim as he is completely pointless, even if obscenely rich

I'm sure I'll think of some more but that'll do for starters.

A warm welcome back to DJ Matt Sears from Nuneaton, laying down another fantastic House-oriented set on this rainy Friday in Holt, following his triumphant first visit back in April. Fancy following Matt onto the hallowed Vault decks? Enthusiasm is more important than technique, although Matt has oodles of both. He'll be back!

Thanks for the reminder Pete Keeley. It has a darkly psychedelic edge and reminds me strongly of something else that I can't quite place. You can see why Porter wasn't keen as this was pushing the envelope close to the edge of the desk! Brilliant song indeed x

This is the song I was alluding to in what I wrote about Dolly yesterday. It is truly singular as well as singularly truthful, and was the first song I thought of when hearing that Dolly had departed this world. Naturally enough I'll be listening to some of her recordings in the Vault today x
