Last year, I was incredibly grateful to receive funding to help me develop my practice as a children’s book author and illustrator.

After releasing my debut picture book, The Mouse and the Mushroom Blooms, I wanted to build on everything I’d learned by developing my illustration skills and investing dedicated time in creating new work.

I applied for Arts Council Funding to help me develop my work and I was successful!

What did the funding support with?
✨Courses – specialist training in children’s book writing, illustration, and pen & wash techniques.

Curtis Brown Creative and the amazingly talented Zara Slattery

✨Life drawing – weekly classes to strengthen my illustration skills.

With the lovely Letgo Life Drawing

✨Materials & art supplies – resources to experiment, paint, and develop new artwork.

I bought watercolour paper, Eco line liquid water colours and a light box for drawing

✨My Time was paid for. This included time for Research & development – dedicated time to create new illustrations and work on my next nature-inspired picture book. And the time taken to attend the various courses etc.

I’m so excited to keep growing as an illustrator and storyteller, and I can’t wait to share what comes next.

I was soooo pleased to have been successful in receiving a grant for the Develop your Creative Practice fund.

Seems like a trick but the government actually gave me money to invest in myself and my skills.

If you’re working on a project or want to invest in developing your skills in a certain area, check it out and see what you could achieve!

I’ll be sharing what I invested the money in from my DYCP fund later this week.

Step into a world of magic and wonder tomorrow with a special storytelling session. I will be reading from my debut children’s book, “The Mouse and the Mushroom Blooms” at the beautiful

Join me for a journey into the hidden world of fungi and mushrooms.  Become a tree in the forest, learn about where stories come from and listen to a lively retelling of my children’s story The Mouse and the Mushroom Blooms . The story follows a little lost mouse into the forest, in search of her own magic. Who will help her on the way? The story is all written in rhyming poetry and can be enjoyed by 2-7 yr olds. Come and get involved, learn about the fantastic world of fungi, creativity and finding your own magic!
