It’s international Mead Day!

International mead day falls on the first Saturday in August and this year, we starts August right with this being the 1st!

The last 12 months has been incredible for us, beginning to delve into the mead business. We have learned so much from so many talented people in the mead business and now have a traditional mead that we are exceptionally proud of

But, for those that don’t know? What IS mead?

In recent years, mead has - rightfully - seen a resurgence in popularity. But, believe it or not, one of the questions we are asked the most is; what is mead?

Mead is one of the oldest alcoholic drinks known to man. This is in part because mead can be found naturally in the wild, if the conditions are just right. All you need is honey, a little rain water and some natural yeast... And.. Hey presto... MEAD! (of course, GOOD mead takes a little more care and sterilization!) Mead has been highly valued by humans since its discovery and can be found in Roman, Greek and Viking mythology - often heralded as the drink of the gods.

Our McM Comic Con exclusive tee has now hit our website!!

This beautiful design features a Nordic Mythology x Anime mash-up featuring the Allfather himself; Odin. We worked closely with Anime artist Jeqqi Artwork to create a design that embodies both styles. These are very limited!

Odin is featured as the ultimate master of war, magic, and cosmic wisdom. The striking ice-blue and deep purple tones jump from the design, capturing the cold, calculating fury of the Allfather as we kept his legendary elements true to the mythology.

His undeviating spear, Gungnir, is held high - surged with runic power - while one of his faithful ravens, Huginn or Muninn, swoops close to whisper secrets of the battlefield. Framed by a halo of ancient runes, the Ruler of Valhalla stands ready for the end of worlds.

10 years ago we set out to find the finest mead we could. We didn’t want mass-produced, chemically altered wine bases. We wanted real, authentic, independent craft.

That search led us to a stall at the York Food Festival, run by a 3rd-generation beekeeper named Pete Allanson.

Pete was the very first mead maker we ever worked with and stocked. For nearly 10 years, he wasn’t just a supplier - he was a core part of the Horns of Odin family. Together, we collaborated on recipes, developing unique flavour profiles (like Pineapple & Coconut), and designing custom labels from scratch.

More importantly than that, Pete taught me how to make mead. He passed down generations of knowledge, teaching me his mead making style, which i developed into my own signature style

But every saga eventually reaches its final chapter. Pete has officially retired from mead making to enjoy some well-earned peace and quiet. While Pete is hanging up his brewing paddle, he isn’t leaving his hives. Pete is going back to his true roots as a 3rd-generation beekeeper, and he will continue to provide 100% of the raw Yorkshire honey used to brew our Horns of Odin Traditional Honey Mead.

With that, moving forward, once these stunning flavours are gone; they’re gone!! So grab your bottles now to avoid disappointment
