Finest Imaginary

Finest Imaginary Creating a fun range of laser cut jewellery, hand printed homewares and stationery. What's next for Finest Imaginary?

Finest Imaginary remains a DIY enterprise, my studio is in my home (complete with feline overseers) & I still screenprint from my kitchen table (much to the dismay of my long suffering boyfriend). Almost all my jewellery is made by hand in my studio, and I personally design everything under the Finest Imaginary brand. In 2012 I managed to cross a giant item off my bucket list when one of my design

s was featured in Vogue — it doesn't get much better than that! I'm working on a brand new range right now, I can't wait to show you!

I cried quite a lot making this but I think I needed it tbh. ❤️

It’s been a week since we lost Scout and I’m still trying to get my head around the fact that she’s actually gone (it was sudden, and unexpected).

Looking through 13 years of photos for this was both heartbreaking and lovely. There she is, woven into our lives through different times, different versions of me, adventures, new babies, ordinary days and a good number of occasions where I put something stupid on her head 😂

I think that’s what I’m finding so hard about losing her. She wasn’t just someone I loved. She was there for thirteen years. A constant little presence in the background of my life, until suddenly she wasn’t.

So this one is for Scout, my goodest girl. And for everyone who knows exactly how enormous the space left behind by an animal can be. ❤️

I miss you, my daft stubborn girl. x

Apparently I’m a Whimsical Pick-Me now and unfortunately for everyone involved I’ve decided to really lean into it ✨😂

Because whimsy is sticking plastic jewels to your biodance facemask. Whimsy is giving your KitchenAid a name. Whimsy is eating your tea off Halloween plates in March. Whimsy is making your house perform Rainbow Connection on command for absolutely no practical reason whatsoever.

Buy things you love! Collect things! Have silly little treats! Just maybe we don’t need to glue plastic gems onto every single-use object we encounter and call it a personality trait 😂

Anyway, I’ll be over here adding lore instead of landfill.

Whimsical Pick-Me over and out 🫡✨

Well, that’s it. Both kids are officially at school 🥹👏🏻

And despite what my algorithm has been suggesting for the past two weeks, I am… actually really bloody excited about it 😂

Of course it feels HUGE. Of course there’s a little bit of “how the hell did we get here already?!” But mostly I’m excited for him, excited for all the things he gets to do next, and yes, excited for me too.

I’ve spent the last 7+ years fitting work and everything else around having small children at home, then three days a week of childcare, and suddenly I have actual school hours?! FIVE DAYS A WEEK?! What luxury is this?!

I loved having little kids. I’m also really looking forward to this next bit. I don’t think those two things have to contradict each other 🩷

And if you’re not quite there yet, PLEASE, for the love of god, make sure you don’t lose yourself in motherhood. You’re allowed to be someone outside of being their mum too.

So, parents of school-age kids: how did YOU feel when your youngest started? Devastated? Liberated? A weird mixture of both? 😂

I feel like every so often it’s worth doing a little terms & conditions update 😂

I’ve never really wanted this account to be perfectly polished or universally agreeable. I’d much rather talk about the things I actually care about, share the chaos alongside the nice bits, have opinions, change my mind, go off on weird little side quests and occasionally ask whether we’ve all gone completely fu***ng mad.

You absolutely don’t have to agree with me on everything. That would be weird.

But if you made it to the end and thought “yep, sounds about right”, hello 👋 I think we’ll get along.

And if not... well, the unfollow button is right there 😂✌️

Babe, your overconsumption is showing.

I fear we have FULLY lost the meaning of whimsy-maxxing thanks to some stupid fu***ng trend.

Buying sheets of plastic gems to stick to cans, takeaway cups and other stuff that’s literally going in the bin five minutes later isn’t whimsy-maxxing. It’s landfill-maxxing.

Whimsy doesn’t need to be something you buy.

It’s making things because you fancy it. Keeping colourful paper chains up all year ‘round. Learning an entirely new craft to make ONE thing. Putting your kids’ artwork in proper frames. Displaying weird little treasures you’ve collected on holidays. Buying something bizarre from a charity shop because it makes you laugh every time you look at it.

It’s making your surroundings and your everyday life feel a bit more you.

And look, I am absolutely not above sticking plastic gems to things. 😂 Just maybe things we’re planning on keeping for longer than the lifespan of an iced coffee?!

More making things. More keeping weird treasures. More pointless creative projects. Less gluing plastic to stupid s**t.

Turns out being a bit s**t at something and carrying on anyway is VERY character building 😂

Running is absolutely not something that has come naturally to me. I’m slow, I’ve had setbacks, the first 3km continues to feel like a personal attack, and every so often I run with someone faster than me and get thoroughly humbled.

BUT I’m still doing it. And surely that counts for something?!

So runners who started off slow and actually managed to get faster: give me your wisdom. What genuinely helped? Because I would quite like to graduate from s**t to s**t hot at some point 🏃‍♀️😂

It’s September which means I am FULLY READY for spooky season 🦇📚

I love a cosy autumn book as much as the next basic witch, but sometimes I want something that is actually going to CREEP ME OUT.

So here are 13 genuinely scary, creepy, gothic and generally unsettling books for your autumn reading list. Some I’ve loved, some are on my list for this year.
And yes, there are 13 on purpose 👻

What have I missed? Give me your *actually scary* recommendations because I’m always looking for more!

Cosy/witchy autumn reads coming separately because that is an entirely different genre and I have some bangers.

Okay before anyone comes for me: I HAVE BOUGHT THE TAT. 😂

I have absolutely gone into TK Maxx/Home Bargains/B&M for one thing and come out with a seasonal mug, a ceramic pumpkin and something I only wanted because I’d seen it approximately 400 times on Instagram.

I get it. I like shopping. I like cute things. I like the little dopamine hit of buying myself a treat, and I actually think there’s probably something in the fact that when everything is SO bloody expensive, a £5 mug or a £7 vase feels like an affordable little luxury when the bigger stuff is increasingly out of reach (search the lipstick theory).

But I’ve really reined myself in over the last couple of years, and now I’m looking at the sheer volume of trend-led homeware being churned out every season and thinking… has this somehow got even worse?!

It feels like we’ve taken the fast fashion model and applied it to our homes. New collections constantly. Hauls. “RUN, DON’T WALK.” Viral mugs. Seasonal stuff that isn’t even made to last until the same season next year.

I’m not saying never buy the silly ghost. I WILL ALSO BE BUYING THE SILLY GHOST. 👻

I just want to get better at buying the silly ghost because I genuinely bloody love him, rather than because the internet has collectively decided that this is the ghost we’re all buying this week.

Anyway. Fast homeware. Can we talk about it?!

I feel like I’ve finally got a bit more brain space to pay attention to myself again 😂

It’s not because I’ve spent the last 7 years completely neglecting myself, but babies and toddlers are NEEDY and now my kids are a bit older there’s more room for meeeee!

More room to think about what makes me feel good, what I’m eating, moving my body, doing my skincare, reading a book, wearing clothes I feel good in.

Deffo not trying to look 25 again (lolz), I just want to feel good, strong and like myself at 41.

Turns out the midlife glow-up is mostly water, SPF, weights and remembering to go to bed at a reasonable time. Who knew?!
