Making a new collection at Bijoux Blush is a wonderful process. Sometimes we start with an idea, and occasion or a “person” in mind. But for this collection we take inspiration from the fashion house Dior. We have always loved the Dior Couture of the 1950s and when I saw this year Autumn winter collection I was in instant love, the colours, the Lilly pads. Which shape is your favourite? This was not the news I wanted to wake up to. Merrie England has been an institution in Huddersfield. It was a right of passage to go into town on a Saturday and get a Merrie England after doing your shopping.

Thousands of Grandparents have taken, or been taken to Merrie England for a special treat. On moving to our first house we celebrated by taking a walk around the corner and getting a Merrie England! So I was so gutted to hear that after 60 years, the new owners have made a snap decision to close all the shops in Huddersfield. It’s just so sad for all the staff who have overnight lost their jobs and for all the kids who were looking forward to having a Merrie England over the summer holidays.

This beautiful Museum and the wonderful building that it’s housed in are under threat. Please sign the petition if you can to keep this place going. Huddersfield deserves a place where history is valued. We are such a fortunate town to have wonderful places like Greenhead park and Beaumont Park we should also value our heritage and use it and visit. Especially during the kids school holidays when the children get bored taking them to places like this can be such an enriching experience and a cheap day out!

So please sign to keep it going for the next generation.

Waves in Slaithwaite was our Venue for today’s Makers Market. It was our first venture there and it’s was such a pleasure to visit such a welcoming place filled with so many smiles and laughter. What a wonderful place. We can’t wait to visit again. The superb bakery next door was also perfect for our sourdough bread for tea!

Definitely one not to be missed next time. Hopefully we will be back again in December for their Christmas Fair.
