Are you a Christie fan? Or find comfort in books? Then come along to our event with bestselling writer (and all round lovely person) Cathy Rentzenbrink as she talks about her new book The Agatha Christie Cure: What Reading the Queen of Crime Taught Me About Life on Sept 14th.

One Christmas, Cathy Rentzenbrink finds herself drained by life’s upheavals. In need of comfort and escape, she turns to her first literary love: Agatha Christie.

As Cathy delves into Agatha’s novels and her mysterious disappearance in 1926, she discovers more than she expected. Beyond the hidden jewels, detectives and thrilling escapes on trains and automobiles, Cathy unearths an adventurer and innovator who hid - within the pages of her own books - the secrets of how she survived a personal crisis and started life again. With the Queen of Crime at her side, Cathy soon begins finding answers to questions she hadn’t even realised she was asking.

A literary detective story and a memoir of finding hope in reading, this journey into the heart of the most successful writer of the 20th century is the perfect tonic for anyone in search of life-affirming resilience, and proof that if ever you’re lonely, tired and in need of solace, getting in the bath with an Agatha Christie is always an excellent idea.

She’ll be in conversation with Adam Roche host of The Labours of Hercule Podcast. Hope to see you there (tickets via link in bio)

Full house on publication day to hear Robert Harris talk about his gripping new thriller set in Ancient Rome. Fascinating to hear about how he brought this little documented figure, Agrippa, who co-ruled half the world to life.

Thank you Rebecca Fletcher for expert interviewing as always. Get your hands on a signed copy, available in the bookshop now!

Our event with Robert Harris on Thursday may have sold out (do get in touch if you would like to reserve a signed copy of Agrippa) but we have a veritable [tries to think of a collective noun for authors] of writers lined-up ready to discuss their brand new books this Autumn.

You don’t have to have read the books beforehand and it’s always a friendly atmosphere so do come along (tickets via our website, or The Tractor Shed for Clare Balding, The Beacon Wantage for Lee & Andrew Child and Arlington Arts Centre for Jodi Piccoult).

To celebrate the release of Pastures New in paperback this September, beloved broadcaster Clare Balding is returning to her roots for an exclusive daytime event in a collaboration with The Tractor Shed on September 29th.

Twenty-five people have the chance to meet for coffee and pastries before setting off from The Tractor Shed on a 40-minute guided dog walk through the beautiful Highclere Valley, home of world renowned Highclere Stud.

On returning to the Tractor Shed there will be a casual, buffet style lunch of delicious, locally sourced food for up to 70 people before a fascinating talk from Clare about her new novel, her writing career and her local memories, followed by a book signing.

Come and meet Clare at this intimate and unique event in the gorgeous boho chic surroundings of The Tractor Shed – West Berkshire’s newest and hottest event space for those in the know.

You can book tickets for the walk only, or for a talk and light lunch, or for everything via The Tractor Shed’s website: https://www.highclerevalley.co.uk/tractor-shed

Please note that there is only one dog per person allowed on the walk, to avoid canine chaos! All dogs will have to remain on short leads for the whole event and if your dog is not very sociable please consider whether this is the right event for them.

We’ll be there with books to buy on the day. We can’t wait! 🐾 📖 🍽️

Bookshops are at the heart of our high streets, but rising business rates are making it harder for them to invest and grow (we have personal experience of this). We’re backing The Booksellers Association call for targeted business rates relief for bookshops. Lee Dillon - MP for Newbury John Healey – will you support your local bookshop?
