Pannage season has arrived! 🐖🌰🍂

The pigs are out snuffling their way through the New Forest, the nights are drawing in, and there’s definitely a little chill creeping into the evenings… which means it’s officially hot water bottle season! 🥰

And really, could there be a more appropriate project than our 𝗦𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘁 & 𝗔𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿? 🐷🌰🧶

With its little pigs, acorns and mushrooms worked into the colourwork, it’s basically the New Forest in knitted form — and the perfect cosy autumn project to cast on now.

🧶 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 🧶
𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵! 📏

We know, we know… you just want to cast on the jumper. Do you really have to knit a swatch first? 😅

Unfortunately, sometimes the boring answer is yes!
A gauge swatch isn't just about checking whether you have the right number of stitches. It gives you a little preview of how your finished project is going to behave.

🧶 Is the fabric too loose or too dense?
📏 Are you actually getting the gauge in the pattern?
🫧 Does the yarn grow or change after washing?
🎨 Do you like how the colours work together?
🪡 Would a different needle size give you a fabric you prefer?

And remember: wash and block your swatch the same way you intend to wash the finished garment. Your gauge before and after washing can be surprisingly different!

💡 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺:
Don't want your swatches sitting forgotten in a drawer? Turn them into pockets! If you're making a cardigan or jumper, a swatch in the same yarn can become a perfectly coordinating patch pocket. Functional and smugly resourceful. 😂

Pannage season is here in the New Forest, which means the pigs have been let loose to snuffle up all those acorns! 🐖🍂 It’s my absolute favourite time of year!

The nights are drawing in, the knitted sweaters are starting to make an appearance, we’re stocking up on firewood, and I’m already thinking about cosy walks in our wellies amongst the autumn leaves. 🍁

All of which can only mean one thing… knitting and crochet season is well and truly here! 🧶❤️

So, if you haven’t already, it’s time to start thinking about those autumn projects! Have a wander around the Hythe Market today, grab yourself a coffee and something delicious, then swing by Fully Woolly for a little yarny inspiration.

After somehow managing to win the Hythe Christmas Tree Festival 𝗧𝗪𝗢 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗔 𝗥𝗢𝗪, there is absolutely no pressure whatsoever to make it three… 😅🏆🏆

This year’s theme is 𝗫𝗠𝗔𝗦 𝗕𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘 🌊🎅 and we need your help to create another completely handmade Fully Woolly tree!

Think ice creams, mermaids, fish, starfish, seashells, beach huts, lighthouses, buckets & spades, seagulls… basically anything that screams Hythe seaside, but make it Christmas! 🧜‍♀️🍦🐚🎄

Knit it, crochet it, embroider it, felt it — we don’t mind! The more colourful, quirky and wonderfully woolly the better.

And yes… Hythe’s famous traffic cone on the promenade absolutely counts. 😂
