Invisible/disguised patch darning focuses on restoring the original look (or close to) of the fabric. Matching the yarn type, colour and weave, the repair blends into the surrounding material.

The aim is subtlety — strengthening the weakened area while keeping the garment’s appearance close to unchanged. It’s a more discrete approach to darning and a careful process that extends the life of much-loved pieces.

If you’re interested in learning more join our Introduction to Darning Workshop on Sunday 1st March from 16:30-18:30 (see link in bio).

From someone who de-bobbles/de-pills a lot of cashmere knitwear, here are my favourite tools to use to get the job done.

REMEMBER when you’re using either the rake, comb or stone, be sure to pull the tool in the direction of the knit ONLY, following the little arrows of the knit downwards. If not, you’ll get snags and create holes!

We’ll release more content next week focusing on each method and how to use them!

Visible or decorative patch darning is a way to highlight mending and make it a unique feature of a garment. Using contrasting yarns, stitches are worked over the damaged area in a simple woven structure, reinforcing the cloth while adding colour and character. It’s a reminder that repair can be an act of creativity as well as care.

If you’re interested in learning more join our Introduction to Darning Workshop on Sunday 1st March from 16:30-18:30 at Bawn Textiles (see link in bio)

A quick Friday fix: Swiss darning — sometimes called invisible mending — is one of our favourite ways to repair cashmere. It’s a slow, careful technique that blends each thread back into the knit, almost like the damage was never there. We love seeing how these tiny repairs let a well-loved piece keep going just a bit longer.

We’ve written a full breakdown of these techniques in our Journal (on our website) - link in bio.
