SAFETY FEEDING IN SLINGS

Here is a helpful checklist if you plan to feed your baby in a sling or carrier.

πŸ‘‰πŸ»Let's get this information shared and become as well known as TICKS. Feeding in a sling or carrier is NOT hands free.

βœ… Airways free and clear
βœ… One hand or arm supporting baby's head
βœ… Fabric supporting from neck to knee pit
βœ… Nothing covering baby's head or face
βœ… Monitor baby at all times

If you are unsure or cannot monitor baby, then stop and remove baby for a feed.

If you would like support or learn to feed safely, you can book in for a 1:1 at any time.

Got a question about feeding in a sling or carrier?

😯 IT'S NOT HANDS FREE! 😯

Breastfeeding/chestfeeding in a sling is NOT hands free. Not what you want to hear?
When people want to breast or chestfeed in a sling, it's usually so they can do something at the same time so want their hands free.

It's not HANDS free, but it IS HAND free. You will have one hand free, and when you become a parent, you know how much you can still do with one!

Depending on the position you choose to feed in, babys head is not supported, this is why you need to do it. Babies head is the heaviest part of their body, and they cannot support it very well.

Covering babies head with the sling or carrier is NOT the solution either. This presses babies head into the breast/chest and doesn't allow them the movement needed to latch and unlatch. It can also be an asphyxiation risk.

When feeding in the sling or carrier, you must monitor baby at all times. Check if they have fallen asleep and resposition them high on your chest upright.

Babies under 4 months, premature, low weight or have medical issues are at a higher risk and it's important to get 1:1 support at all times in these circumstances.

If you do not feel you can monitor baby the whole time then do not try to do something else and stop to feed first.

If you want to learn how to safely feed in your sling or carrier get in touch.

The .baby go hip is finally here!

Another hip carrier but has more to offer!

πŸ‘‰ wide shoulder pad for comfort
πŸ‘‰ bigger panel so offers more support
πŸ‘‰ toggles to tighten the top
πŸ‘‰ simple to adjust.

As with others, its suitable from 6m. This one is advertised as being hands free, but with all hip carriers I still advise supporting wee ones shoulders.

This is ruby and the fabric also feels lovely and sturdy.

It's available for hire now so who will be first to grab it??

F.A.Q For hiring at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival

πŸ€” How do I hire?
To save time register on my website under the sling library tab. Or you can register on the day.

πŸ€” What can I hire?
I will have a selection of carriers and ear defenders suitable from newborn to preschool size. I will also have lots of hip carriers available.

πŸ€” What's included?
You will be taught how to put the carrier on and off and a run through of safety checks. This will all be done by a trained babywearing educator.

πŸ€” Can I use it all weekend?
Of course! Enjoy and party hands free while wee one is safe and close. Return to me on Saturday or arrange return on Sunday. (Charges will be applied if not retuned)

πŸ€” Can you teach me how to use it?
Yes you will be given a basic fitting, if you want more support then you can book a session before the event online or at my studio. (Appointments are limited)

πŸ€” Do I need to know what I want?
No, that's my job to choose the best for you. But if you have a specific carrier or brand you want to try, please message me asap to ensure I get it packed.

πŸ€” Do you have options to back carry?
Yes, almost everything I will have with me will be suitable to back carry. The event will be busy so if you want to learn to back carry, I have a workshop running on Mon 27th at my studio.

πŸ€” Can you help with my own sling or carrier?
Of course. You can book a safety check and fitting at the event. Learn how to use your carrier easier and make sure baby is fitted safely and comfortably.

πŸ€” Any other questions? Let me know!

CARRYING IN THE HEAT

It's hot hot hot! Save this handy graphic to check each time you head out. Want something cooler? Check out my summer options for hire!

πŸ‘ Save and share too

😊Just in the house? Leave baby in their nappy and you have a thin cotton top on is ideal

Follow these simple tips and stay safe. Get in touch if you want to hire something cooler.

β˜€οΈ DRESS LIGHTLY
Dress yourself and baby in light clothing, long length for baby to protect skin. Ensure sun cream is dry before putting in sling or carrier.

β˜€οΈ STAY SHADED
Try to keep in the shade as much as possible, a brolly is great is there is none. And NEVER drape a buggy.

β˜€οΈ PROTECT THEIR HEAD
Use a hat with a wide brim or peak to protect baby from sun. Not the carrier hood!

β˜€οΈ STAY HYDRATED
Stay hydrated and encourage baby to feed regularly. Even short small feeds will allow baby to stay hydrated.

β˜€οΈ CARRYING CHOICE
If possible, choose a sling designed for warmer weather. Like a solar, one with mesh or linen. If not, try to use a single layer carry or a back carry which is cooler.

β˜€οΈ REST
Rest as much as you can, break up a walk or day out by resting or swapping who carries. Allow baby a break out the sling too.
