We very much hope that you are well and looking forward to the summer holidays, and some better weather!

On Friday 26th June we would like to welcome you to come and visit Tomatin Firewood once again; another opportunity for those who could not manage to attend last year! This way you can see the products that we sell in the flesh, we will show you our firewood processor the kiln, as well as some of the further diversification, with our sister companies Juniper lodges (https://www.juniperlodges.co.uk/) and Riverbank Lodges (https://riverbanklodges.uk/) . We will likely have a small BBQ offering some burgers, soft drinks and coffees. It is essential that you please advise of your attendance by the 21st June, so that we can plan how many burgers to and rolls to prepare! For those who do confirm attendence, a further email will be sent out advising on where to park and how to find us!

It is very difficult to predict what will happen later this year with pricing, but wood pellets prices have already started to creep up in price during the summer period (normally when the prices are lower); UK briquettes have also gone up fractionally. There is the possibility that the prices could go up quite a bit once the colder weather returns in the autumn.

The kiln dried imported oak and imported pini kay briquettes are more liklely to rise further in price later this year, due to the increased cost of shipping and haulage caused by the Iran war. I have been holding off on restocking the crates of oak in the hope that things will settle down, and the price of shipping will drop down again, but this is looking ever more unlikely the further we get through summer.

The summer seesm to be racing by and before we know it we will be into July! It is also a timely reminder for those particularly wanting stock up on air dried hardwood with the intention of using this coming winter that it is recommended to be stocking up on this before end of July in order to give firewood enoght drying time. We are going to contine to run £20 off any tipping load promotion over £250 up until end of July.

Tailor-made firewood orders:

If you have any particular firewood requests, such as a particuler length, chunky or thinly sliced, now is the best time of year to put these orders in, when we have more time to carry out these requests!

Traditionally April - July tends to be our quietest time of the year when in fact this is the time fo year that customers should really be considering stocking up on air dried firewood in particular; to ensure it is totally dry for the coming season!

We are trialling a new product, dense hardwood (mainly oak and elm) which has been kiln dried and cut to around 14.5cm mainly. This is now available on the website in the kindling section and is intended for for Ooni style pizza ovens.

** Holidays
------------------------------------------------------------

Kitty, myself and the children will be on holiday from 3rd July and back late on 18th July. Michael and Symen will still be carrying out deliveries and processing during this time. I would be most grateful if you are considering placing order, to put the order in before we go on holiday! I do monitor my emails daily, even when on holiday, but it is always better when there are less emails for me to respond to!

Hi everyone,

We are hoping to try and have puppies off our golden retriever, Hazel.

Hazel has recently turned 5 and has just passed her hip and elbows, eye test, and is Kennel Club registered. We are hoping to find a handsome goldy boyfriend for her. This would be her first litter.

We think Hazel is likely to go on heat around July - August time.

We are looking to expand our team and are now seeking a new member to join Tomatin Firewood!

Ideally living locally within 20 miles of Tomatin. Must be able to work on their own much of the time, but also within a very small team. We really want a candidate who reliable, has an interest in this type of work and is looking for a long term role within the business. We are not looking for someone just looking for a short term role.

Please note this position does require a physically able candidate, as there will likely be an element of lifting or pushing on a daily basis. It can often involve working outside at all times of the year! Ideally this position would suit someone who has had some previous experience operating plant machinery such as telehandlers.

The role will mainly involve processing firewood using firewood processors and carrying out deliveries with a pickup and trailer. It will also involve operating tractor and timber trailer, telehandlers, chain sawing. Assisting with operation of kiln and the boiler, maintaining machinery, stacking jobs, occasionally bagging logs, kindling and general duties related to the firewood business and surrounding farm and woodlands.

The role will be for around 40-45 hours per week, the starting wage currently will be around £13.5 per hour and will increase to around £17.5 per hour dependent on the ability and experience of candidate. Salary is reviewed every month, and is increased generally on the quality of work, care of machinery and efficiency. The salary includes the statutory 5-6 weeks (28 paid days) paid holidays a year and standard pension contributions. Once more experienced, a company vehicle may also be provided to get to and from work.

Training can be provided for machinery that candidate has no experience in. Paid for external courses are not counted as working hours. Work safety clothing provided.

It is important that the candidate is able to follow instructions, ensuring that the product quality is kept to a high standard at all times, whilst operating in efficient manner, and is also able to be friendly with customers.
