'Missed Connection' a 5 layer reduction lino cut. It is inspired by the hundreds of encounters we have on a daily basis, some of which have an impact, yet others are fleeting and easily disregarded. Faces & no faces, black and white & colour, movement & snapshot. I'd like to say that all were planned for intelligent, well thought out reasons, but most of the variation in my printmaking is down to experimentation and hedging my bets!

You never quite know how a print will turn out but when it doesn’t go to plan it becomes a battle to get to the end! I started this print about 12 months ago, got to layer 3 and then walked away, frustrated about how it was going. But I hate unfinished business, so I finally got round to the last black layer yesterday. There’s loads I’d do differently, but I’ve proved to myself even if it’s not working out as planned, it’s always worth finishing.

Meet our friend Apollo the Cockapoo who lives a few doors up from us. This 4 layer reduction Lino print was commissioned by our neighbour as a present for his daughter. There’s only 1 real Apollo, but it was interesting printing him in different colours making him a dog of many faces, all gorgeous of course!

Although most of the leaves have gone from trees, there is incredible beauty in the woodland at winter. I love the raindrops hanging from the bare branches. This reduction print is one from last year. I loved free styling the background using rollers and spatulas to apply different colours and layers of ink to give a murky wet winter look.
