The Hidden Hives

Earlier this summer, we moved the hives from our little orchard to a new spot, in the field behind our house.

The orchard has been a great home for them, with lots of early blossom just outside their front door and the protection of fencing. However, as the season changes and fruit begins to drop, the wasps become more of a problem and the hives were increasingly vulnerable to attack.

One night (around midnight) Ike closed them all down and then early the next morning, we carried them across to their new location. They still have shelter from trees, a little stream directly behind them and have a full south facing position.

They took a few days to settle but are doing really well now. 🖤

We have been asked a LOT about honey but Ike’s focus this year has been well and truly on expanding the apiary, relocating the hives and making sure they have everything they need to go into winter healthy and strong. Especially after a summer of heatwaves and a lot of swarming; we’ve pretty much been letting the bees keep what they need, rather than harvesting too much honey from them.

We are hoping that all his work this year however, will set them up for a really good season next year.🍯🤞

You might remember the Ginger Flower preview I shared recently?

It generated quite a bit of interest and although it’s not even on the shelves yet (only samples) - the first diffuser has already been snapped up.

A lovely new customer popped in whilst on her holidays and completely fell in love with the scent and bought one to take home with her.

She has just messaged me to say it smells just like her favourite perfume, Love Delight by Amouage and is absolutely delighted!

This is a gorgeous blend of soft cardamom spice, bright bergamot, jasmine and a beautiful amber/tonka base, which fills the room and is the perfect way to bring a golden glow into your home as the seasons start to change.

If however, your fragrance style leans more towards ‘cool, woody and effortlessly chic’ then stay tuned for my next post, as we have yet another new scent for AW called Bare.

Iris & Incense ♡

I wish you could smell this through the screen because it really is gorgeous.

Slightly warm, slightly smoky - a little powdery but has real depth to it that is so addictive and makes you want to keep smelling it.🖤

The diffuser keeps the fragrance beautifully present in the room all day and then when I want to intensify it for maximum impact - I light the candle. ♡

This is the fragrance that I have been most looking forward to sharing.

Inspired by the scent of the apiary, particularly the moment the hive is opened; warmed resinous wood that mingles with tree blossom and the familiar drift of smoke from the smoker. They all come together in a way that is difficult to describe but this fragrance captures the essence.

The contrast of citrus against soft woodsmoke, warm woods and earthy patchouli is what makes this fragrance so distinctive. Graceful, ethereal and without a doubt, my all time favourite fragrance. I have a feeling it may surprise people the most.

Following on from the radiant Ginger Flower, we have something altogether softer and more atmospheric.

Iris & Incense brings us powdery iris, aromatic herbs and just enough incense to give it depth. Cedarwood and amber add warmth, creating a fragrance which is elegant and layered but not overpowering.

Soft and refined but so easy to live with - autumn fragrances don’t always have to be rich or spiced. Sometimes it is about restraint, depth and character.

Not every autumn fragrance needs to smell of cinnamon, apple, clove and pumpkin!

Ginger Flower is a solar floral with warmth, depth and a fresh citrus opening. Bright bergamot and gentle warming spice lead into orange flower and Ylang Ylang before settling into amber and tonka.

A warm floral inspired by the shift from late summer into autumn.🧡
