Mr Theophilus Bear
Hello! The summer has been taking its time this year — warm days, the occasional cool grey morning when the workroom feels wonderfully cosy, and a very particular sense that everything is just as it should be. Which is, I think, the ideal moment to introduce someone rather distinguished.
Allow me to present Mr Theophilus Bear — Mr T Bear to those who know him well, and he does rather expect to be known well — who arrived on my workbench with the most extraordinary air of settled authority. He is 16 inches tall, which is a most satisfying size, and he is made from the most beautiful Parchment Whirl 20mm mohair. If you have never encountered Parchment Whirl, I urge you to imagine the warmest, creamiest, most gently antiqued ivory — it has this wonderful depth and movement to it, a slight wave that gives it a most distinguished character. He could not possibly have been made from anything else.
His pads and paws are cream cashmere — soft and warm and very proper — and he has English Glass bright black eyes that look at you with a considerable amount of knowing. He wears spectacles, which he was absolutely insistent upon, and carries both a cane and a newspaper. One does not question Mr T Bear about these things. He has his reasons, and they are very good ones.
He is fully five way jointed, with plastic armature in his arms so that they can be positioned just so, and steel shot weighting in his tummy which gives him a wonderfully solid, settled feeling in the hand. He is firmly stuffed and has the presence of a bear who has somewhere important to be — but who will, if you are very lucky, agree to stay.
Mr Theophilus Bear is looking for his forever home. If you feel you might be the right sort of person for him — he does have standards — do get in touch at [email protected]. I rather think he has already made up his mind about where he'd like to go, and he is simply waiting for the right moment to announce it.
