Today is World Bee Day, we’re taking a minute to step pack and appreciate what each little bee does for us in their short lives!

How are you showing love to the bees today?

Watching slowmotion bees has to be one of my new favourite things to do, bees go from masters of flying precision to something that I can only describe as a drunk person trying to get in their own front door.

Keeping this video simple nature sounds weird when slowed down.

We love planting for pollinators creating diverse and colourful planters

🐝🌸 Bees don’t just make honey β€” they help grow the food, flowers, and life we enjoy every single day.
Without pollinators, our gardens become quieter, our harvests become smaller, and nature loses one of its most important workers. πŸŒπŸ’›
Plant more flowers.
Avoid harmful pesticides.
Protect the tiny wings that keep our world blooming. 🌼✨
Every flower you plant is a small promise to nature…
and every bee you save is a step toward a healthier planet. πŸπŸ’š

Today we had a bit of a different call. We were tagged in a message from a lovely couple carrying out renovations on their first home! They had taken down an existing shed structure exposing a nest of buff-tailed bumblebees that had taken up residence. Not ideal when trying to get your new home up together.

In a situation that would allow the best course would always to be to leave the bees in place. However the nest had been fully exposed at this point and while trying to carry out their renovations it wouldn’t have been safe for the bees or the people carrying out work to let them stay. These clever little bees had used some plastic bags to fashion this nest making it much easier to relocate. So we managed to scoop them up gently and place them in one of our Paynes Poly-Nucs and transported them over to our apiary.

We knew there would be plenty of spots here to tuck this young colony away. We found a spot near one of the old buildings to place the colony in and covered them back over using some old chipboard leaving space for them to get in and out of their nearly intact nest. With them being at our apiary we know they will have excellent food sources and we can also keep an eye to make sure they continue to thrive for the rest of the season.

A little catch up on our new hive Liz, this hive has been busting at the seems since it arrived in its nuc. It has been surprise after surprise each time we’ve looked at this colony and we love how active these girls are!

The weather has been absolutely stunning this week and will continue to be. This hive has gone from Nuc to needing a super within 7 days... absolutely wild.

Enjoy this raw audio of the birds and the bees from this weekend.

With the beautiful weather the last few days it has be go, go, go with our new girls arriving. The first impression of the bees is fantastic they are the most gentle busy girls. Once we had finished moving them to their hive we were packing our tools away we were able to walk around without our suits and the girls were happy buzzing around us.

We would love to say a massive thank you to the good people for being a wonderful supplier, and brilliant at communicating times and delivery, what to expect when the Bees were being sent and what to do when they get to us. We are so exciting to see what this season brings with these wonderful girls.
