Unfulfilled Expectations

That afternoon, sunk into my leather armchair in a corner of the sitting room, I was considering this natural phenomenon. I, too, was sensing the end of a useful life. A life that had flowed like a mountain stream through a peaceful valley, giving life to a parched earth, carrying everything in its path, and at the end tumbling into a ravine, and then into the void, only to be reborn in the waters of the ocean and renew the eternal cycle of its course. This notion prompted the need to write about the people and the places of my country that had nurtured generations and had formed a civilisation now eclipsing before my very eyes.
