Eton College asked us to remake a medal that they had historically awarded for Shakespearean studies. An original was seen in the Heberden coin room in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and an idea to strike some more began.

The original dies were held at the college and by making a new 'collar' we were able to use them to make a small number of these beautiful bronze 43.25mm diameter medals.

The college was delighted with them and we were please to be involved in the project.

We love to hear how happy our customers are when they receive their sentimental medals back, so thank you to Sam for this lovely review.

Good Morning,
Just so youโ€™re aware I have received both sets of framed medals. I am over the moon how well they have been done and thank you for helping me honour them correctly. The fact that you have sent back the box they came in with the cut up ribbons was a lovely touch and showed great care and attention to details. The speed (I know this will vary) in which they where done, considering how good the craftmanship is, is astounding. When it comes to mount my own or any others, I will come to you first, thank you so much!

I will recommend you everywhere I can.

Many thanks,
Sam

We are extremely proud to have recently made medals for the which is an organisation set-up by King Charles. They commissioned Ollie Beckwith to create a film of the manufacturing process. We love the result!

Remembering and Reflecting

Today, 28th February, marks 35 years since the end of the Gulf War, the 1990โ€“91 campaign in which British and coalition forces served in Operation Granby during the liberation of Kuwait.

The Gulf Medal was authorised in 1992 and awarded to members of the British Armed Forces who served in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and surrounding areas during the conflict.

โ€ข The medal is cupro-nickel, 36 mm in diameter, with the Queenโ€™s crowned effigy on the obverse and combined service symbols on the reverse.

โ€ข Two clasps were authorised: 2 Aug 1990 (for the Kuwait Liaison Team) and 16 Jan โ€“ 28 Feb 1991 (for service during the core combat phase). A rosette worn on the ribbon denotes entitlement to a clasp.

โ€ข The ribbonโ€™s design (sand-coloured centre with dark blue, red and light blue edges) symbolises the desert landscape and the three armed services.

More than 61,000 medals and clasps were awarded to personnel and qualifying civilians who met the service requirements.

At Bigbury Mint, we honour this history with high quality replicas and commemorative medals, hand-pressed and dyed in our Devon workshop, crafted with care and detail. These pieces make meaningful keepsakes for veterans, families and collectors.

35 years on - we remember the service and sacrifice of all who served.
