A very special day at the Westmorland Show
We had the most fabulous morning at the Westmorland County Show, accompanied by our Steward and new pal, beekeeper Peter Wright.
This year, Sarah had the absolute privilege of being invited to judge the Craft Trade stands, a rather special full-circle moment. We cut our teeth at the County Show (and others like it) some decade ago, so to now be invited back to look at, admire and celebrate the work of fellow makers was a real moment to be proud of.
And what a task it was!
We met so many incredible makers and loved hearing about their businesses, their ideas and how their products have developed. Honestly, we could have picked double the winners quite easily!
Our first prize went to Elizabeth Larsen Knitwear, whose incredible knitted garments and accessories were a beautiful homage to the Lakes, brought to life in striking colours.
Second place went to the wonderful Kind & Loving - Handmade Natural Soap & Skincare Soap, whose beautiful soap stand immediately caught our eye. The packaging, attention to detail and deliciously natural scents made it a joy to discover.
And third place went to Chris Renshaw, whose expertise and absolute passion for his craft came across from the moment we stepped onto his stand.
We also had the pleasure of judging the Rural Crafts Tent, where a wonderful collection of craftspeople were helping traditional skills come alive.
Our first prize went to a talented leatherworker Morgan Leather who was not only a brilliant artisan, but an all-round lovely chap. Steve Fuller followed in a very close second, with wonderfully quick hands making light work of creating a seriously enchanting atmosphere at their end of the marquee.
It was such a joy to spend the morning surrounded by people who care deeply about what they make, creativity and keeping traditional trades alive.
We came away with new friends, and a renewed appreciation for just how many talented makers we have right here on our doorstep.
