Aiguille was established by Adrian Moore in 1987 in the spare room of his house, and moved to Staveley Mill Yard in 1991. As the business expanded, Aiguille moved within the yard, and now has a factory shop alongside the manufacturing workshop. High standards of excellence in rucksack design and construction were required to cope with the demands of mountaineering, be it on British crags, Alpine faces or expeditions in the greater mountain ranges of the world. The idea behind Aiguille was to produce high quality and functional equipment that was designed to last a lifetime. Our equipment has been developed through use since those early days, and is now trusted to perform, no matter what the conditions, anywhere in the world. Aiguille also trade under Aiguille Exploration. This is a range of canoeing and kayaking equipment designed and manufactured to the same high standards as is expected. In the shop, Aiguille offer a canoe outfitting service, and are always happy to advise on any matters paddling! In order to ensure the highest quality, each individual product is hand finished and thoroughly checked. Only when Aiguille is completely satisfied does it leave the premises. What is a chalk bag, really? Is it merely a simple cylinder of fabric designed to hold pulverized magnesium carbonate, or is it a vessel for human hope, enabling us to achieve greater climbs?
​At Aiguille, we treat chalk bag development not as a routine manufacturing task, but as an ongoing project. To us, it is an impossibly complex dilemma. How do you build a rim wide enough for a frantic, pumped grab for chalk mid crux, yet compact enough not to turn your harness into a pendulum? How do you achieve maximum dust containment in transit without requiring a crowbar to operate the drawstring?
For decades, we have striven to resolve these fundamental paradoxes. We have subjected prototype after prototype to exhaustive scrutiny across every rock type that the Lakes and further afield can throw at us, evaluating fleece pile density, opening size, cord lock friction, label position, and of course, durability and abrasion resistance.
​Yet, despite an astronomical number of 'testing sessions', the Perfect Chalk Bag remains tantalizingly out of reach. The ultimate design continues to evade us.
​Which is why, regrettably, we have no choice but to head to the crags again and again, chasing perfection all the while. It's a hard job, but someone has to do it. One day we'll get it right, for the time being you can buy one of our current chalk bags, knowing we've put nearly 40 years into development to make it as good as we can.

Jones' route direct and Moss ghyll grooves ticked off our list, we're getting close to completing routes on all the crags now.. This was a big one with a long drive round plus the long walk in a lot of heat. Awesome views and a brilliant climb for all meant this was one that'll stay with us for a while. Scafell never fails to deliver!

We completed Little Chamonix yesterday. A nice easy tick off the list. Lovely views, lots of sun and only 7 more class...

Gillercombe Buttress ticked off our classic rock list. Very atmospheric, slightly damp and many midgies but the route was fantastic and we stayed dry (unless you count falling in a bog on the way down). Topped it all off with a spectacular sunset on the drive to the pub.

We're starting to run out of shorter walk-ins...
