Our Funky Friend Cushions sewing workshop takes place next Thursday 20th August and is a brilliant Summer Art Club session for children aged 5+.

Children will create their own fun cushion character using hand stitching, buttons, ribbons, tassels and lots of decorative materials, making something totally unique to take home.

Do you love scrap as much as we do? Love seeing waste put to good use? Fancy joining our team?

We’re recruiting for a Scrap Coordinator – a brand-new role that’s central to one of our core missions: reducing waste.
It’s all about seeking out amazing materials from local businesses that might otherwise go to landfill, spotting their creative potential and giving them a new life through Ragtag’s Scrapstore, workshops, events and community projects.

Contract Type: Fixed-term – October 2026 to September 2027
Hours: 1 day per week (8 hours), preferably Tuesdays
Pay: £14.16 per hour
Application Deadline: 14th September 2026
Interviews: 16th September 2026
Start Date: 1st October 2026

This Friday at Ragtags we’ll be making Paper Portraits using cardboard, paper and mixed materials to create fun, expressive faces full of character. It’s a lovely session for encouraging creativity, exploring texture and giving children the freedom to make something bold, playful and completely their own.

A brilliant summer holiday activity for primary school-aged children who enjoy a bit of crafty fun.

We’re halfway through the summer holidays already and we just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has joined us for workshops, crafty sessions and drop-in fun so far - we’ve absolutely loved seeing so many of you getting stuck in, getting messy and making the most of summer at Ragtags.

It’s been such a joy to welcome lots of lovely families through the doors and see little hands busy creating, exploring and proudly showing off what they’ve made.

If you’re in need of a few more ideas to help fill the next few weeks, we’ve still got loads going on at Ragtags, from creative workshops to easy drop-in activities, plus coffee and cake to give you an energy boost!

So if you need us, we’re here with the crafts, the caffeine and a little helping hand through the holiday juggle. You’ve got this, parents 💛

There's just a few spaces left for our Teen Craft Day on Monday 17th August.

If you’re looking for a creative, supportive holiday activity for a young person aged 11–16, this is a lovely chance to spend the day trying something a bit different at Ragtag.

In this HAFS funded session, young people will design and make their own ceramic wall clock using clay, exploring surface decoration techniques with coloured slips to add texture, pattern and detail. Their finished piece will then be professionally fired and glazed in our kiln ready to take home later.

They’ll also get the chance to have a go on the potter’s wheel, giving them the opportunity to experience clay in a different way and build confidence with new creative skills.

The session takes place at our pottery studio in Mealbank, with young people collected from Ragtag Arts, Elephant Yard, Kendal and transported to the studio and back again at the end of the day.

Next Thursday, we’ve got a wonderfully colourful Felted Bags Workshop coming up as part of our Summer Art Club. 🌈

Perfect for children aged 5+, this session will give young makers the chance to work with colourful wool fibres to create their own felted bag, which they can then embellish with stitching, pom-poms and buttons. It’s a lovely workshop for children who enjoy texture, detail and creating something practical as well as creative.

Need something fun and creative to do with the kids this week?

This Friday 7th August our Summer Art Club at Ragtags is all about creating Funky Hats!

Children will decorate a straw hat ready for summer and make it completely their own. Think flower power, dinosaur spots, bright colours and plenty of imagination.

It’s a brilliant session for children who love getting stuck in and putting their own stamp on things, and they’ll leave with something fun and wearable too.

Wow. Just wow! 😍

Kendal Calling, we have had THE best time with you this weekend.

We’re still picking glitter out of our hair and, while we’re feeling slightly achy, we’ve had an absolute blast from start to finish.

Huge thank you to our amazing volunteers, Carnival Clubbers and Youth Arts gang for putting on such a fantastic show as part of the Kendal Calling Parade. Rusty, Peggy and Knott all came along for the ride, joined by our colourful birds and brilliant backpacks, dancing to the fantastic beats from Drum Nation and BJamba

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to craft with us, helped paint our cardboard kingdom or had a go at Junkyard Mini Golf. Seeing so many of you getting stuck in made the weekend even more special.

We’ve honestly had the most wonderful time and we’re already counting down until we can do it all again next year.

Kendal Calling - we’re festival-ready for a brilliant weekend of creativity and crafty fun!

You’ll find Ragtag with Scrappy Van at Kendal Calling all weekend, so do come along and say hello, get stuck into some making and enjoy a bit of crafting with us. Or come and help us decorate our Carboard Kingdom!

Don’t miss our wonderful Carnival Clubbers, who’ll be parading at 4:30pm on Sunday 2nd August in the Kendal Calling Parade.
They’ve been working hard on their fabulous creations and we can’t wait to see them bring even more colour and joy to the festival.

We are SO excited to be heading back to Kendal Calling this weekend!

It’s one of our absolute favourite events of the year, and we can’t wait to see lots of familiar faces, meet some new ones and enjoy all the colourful festival chaos in the fields.

You’ll find us in our usual spot at Kids Calling, with plenty of creative fun to get stuck into. Keep an eye out for our brilliant Carnival Clubbers too, who’ll be joining the Sunday parade with their fabulous handmade creations!
