I fell in love with York about a decade ago when I won a scholarship via AbeBooks to attend the York Antiquarian Book Seminar and since then I always try and make an annual pilgrimage to the York Book Fair. It's on for another day, so there's still time to plan a visit.

I'm off to York later this week to visit the York Book Fair so thought I'd choose a couple of Yorkshire themed children's books, the first being Pauline Clarke's fantasy 'The Twelve and the Genii'.
After moving to Yorkshire, Max discovers a set of soldiers that once belonged to the Bronte family in his attic, resolving to help them on their quest to return to Haworth.

'Lucy and Tom's a.b.c.' by Shirley Hughes is a lovely example of one of many alphabet books that we have in stock. Hughes' illustrations manage to capture the essence of everyday family life with such warmth and realism, they make perfect books for sharing with young children.

Back to school this week with Enid Blyton's 'First Term at Malory Towers', this early reprint illustrated by Stanley Lloyd. Darrell Rivers goes off to boarding school, in the first of this ever popular series.

Who doesn't like cheese and crackers? It's my staple diet and what better way to while away an afternoon than at The Boat & Bean by the river with a cheeseboard.
'The Baron on the Island of Cheese' is a rather surreal picture book by Adrian Mitchell and Patrick Benson, recounting the incredible adventures of Baron Munchausen, including being shipwrecked on an island made entirely of cheese. I could live with that.
