Nothing about it was instant.

And that’s exactly why it mattered.

You had to save for it.

You had to wait for it.

You had to walk or ride your bike to get it.

You stood there flipping through rows of cardboard sleeves, knowing you were only leaving with one.

No skipping.

No streaming.

No endless library in your pocket.

One choice.

One album.

And you lived with it.

You studied the cover.

You memorized the track order.

You played it front to back.

Over and over.

Not because an algorithm told you to.

Because you earned it.

Because you chose it.

Because it cost you something.

We didn’t value music more because it was better.

We valued it more because we worked for it.

We understood, early on, that the things that require effort usually mean more.

That lesson didn’t stop with records.

It followed us into work.

Into relationships.

Into how we show up.

A lot of people today have everything.

And somehow appreciate nothing.

Different world.

Different wiring.

But if you grew up this way…

You still carry that old-school appreciation with you.

And it shows.
