💦 With the hosepipe ban now in place, every drop counts—but that doesn't mean your garden can't continue to thrive.
🌅 Water early in the morning or later in the evening!
This reduces evaporation and helps moisture reach the roots where it's needed most.
💦 Water deeply, but less often
A good soak encourages plants to develop stronger, deeper roots, making them more resilient during hot & dry weather.
🍂 Add a layer of mulch around your plants!
Mulch or bark locks in moisture, keep roots cool and reduces the need for more frequent watering.
🚿 Before reaching for the watering can, check the soil first. Simply pop your finger a couple of inches into the soil—if it's still cool and damp below the surface, your plant probably doesn't need watering just yet. It's easy to assume plants need a drink during hot weather, but overwatering can be just as harmful as underwatering!
🌱 Don't forget—Mediterranean favourites like Lavender, Salvia, Verbena and many ornamental grasses are happy in drier conditions once established, making them excellent choices for a low-water garden.
Take a little extra care of newly planted trees, shrubs and bedding plants, as they'll need more attention until their roots are well established. 🌞💚
