UPDATE: Our Dust Extraction
Firstly thank you Cllr David A Howes for the detail that hopefully highlights how seriously we did take any complaints and the extent of work involved to reduce any impact on the surrounding area.
We thank everyone for their patience whilst we underwent the work that required bespoke solutions, unfortunately elongating the length of time taken to implement.

Dunkelman Dust Extraction Noise Update
I wanted to provide residents with an update regarding the noise concerns that have previously been raised about the dust extraction system at Dunkelman in Desborough.
North Northamptonshire Council’s Environmental Health team have continued to work with the company, who have now installed additional noise mitigation measures in conjunction with an acoustic consultant.
The latest feedback from officers is encouraging.
Following the additional work, daytime visits have found that noise levels have improved considerably, to the point where the investigating officer was unable to hear the extraction system.
Environmental Health have also carried out an evening visit at around 10pm while the factory was operating. The extraction noise was again found not to be audible. A resident living on one of the properties most exposed to the industrial estate has also confirmed that they did not hear the noise during the overnight operation.
Importantly, officers have received no renewed complaints over recent weeks.
The extended operating hours are currently being treated as a test period and Environmental Health remain in regular contact with the company. If further complaints are received, the situation will be reviewed.
There are still some evening visits planned with residents who previously reported noise. Officers have also noted that, now the extraction system has been significantly quieter, other noises from elsewhere on the industrial estate have become more noticeable. Further visits will therefore also try to establish the source of any remaining audible noise.
Overall, this is a positive update, and it appears that the measures taken to address the original dust extraction noise have been effective.
I know this issue has affected residents living nearby for some time who took the time to contact myself about this issue, so after raising the issue with the officer team I am pleased to see the company and Environmental Health working together to find a practical solution.
