For many people, mental health and wellbeing can be supported by the simple things that give us a sense of purpose, creativity, routine and enjoyment and hobbies can play a really important part in that.
Model railways are often much more than collecting models. There’s the creativity of building, the focus that comes with working on a layout, the satisfaction of solving a problem, the anticipation of a new project and those moments spent simply watching trains run.
It can be a chance to switch off from everything else for a while, get lost in an activity, have something to look forward to or simply spend time doing something you enjoy.
And then there’s the community around it too - sharing ideas, showing off a layout, visiting exhibitions, helping each other out or simply enjoying the hobby alongside like-minded people.
Everyone experiences mental health differently, and what helps one person might not be the same for someone else. But if model railways provide you with a little bit of escapism, creativity, calm or connection, that's something worth celebrating 🚂💚
Today, on World Mental Health Day we’re celebrating the hobby, the people and all the different ways it can bring a little something positive into our lives.
