Can you related to this….

For most of us, the thought of performing 56 comedy shows across two continents over eight months would be enough to send stress levels through the roof. But for Geordie comedian Ross Noble, staying mentally healthy isn’t about booking extra therapy sessions or downloading another mindfulness app.

It’s about getting on a motorcycle.

The recently turned 50-year-old comedian, who is based in Australia, shared his thoughts on mental health and motorcycling during an appearance on the Full Chat motorcycle podcast while promoting his Cranium of Curiosities tour. Although the interview took place several months ago, what he had to say still resonates with riders around the world.

Speaking on the podcast, Noble explained why riding gives him something he simply can’t find elsewhere.

“Putting a helmet on is one of the few things that makes you really concentrate and keeps you present,” he said. “I spend all my time with my family, I love them to bits, but there’s something about motorbikes. On a motorway you go past a truck and get the wobble, or on a country lane you round a bend and there’s a crack in the tarmac or some leaves. Your brain is constantly making these decisions… Motorbikes are brilliant for working out your sh-t.”

It’s a feeling that many riders will instantly recognise.

The moment you pull on a helmet, your focus shifts. You’re reading the road, anticipating hazards and making constant decisions. Everyday worries don’t disappear, but they take a back seat because your attention is firmly fixed on the ride.

For Noble, that’s exactly why motorcycles have become such an important part of looking after his mental wellbeing.

As he put it:

“If I’m looking at the view, my head is somewhere else, I get lost in the noise. On a bike, the noise is still happening but it’s pushed to the side because you’re actively riding.”

Interestingly, research supports much of what Noble is describing. Studies have found that riding a motorcycle can reduce stress, improve concentration and alertness, and stimulate the release of dopamine and endorphins – the body’s natural feel-good chemicals.

Of course, motorcycles are not a substitute for professional mental health treatment, and anyone who is struggling should seek appropriate support. That wasn’t Noble’s point.

He was describing something many bikers already understand: the clarity that comes from being completely absorbed in the ride.

In a world full of emails, notifications and distractions, riding offers something increasingly rare – complete focus. It doesn’t solve life’s problems, but for many people it provides a welcome reset and a chance to clear the mind.

That’s one of the greatest joys of being on two wheels, and Ross Noble managed to put it into words perfectly.
