LVT, laminate or engineered wood… which one should you actually choose? 👀

There isn’t one ‘best’ flooring it depends on your home, your budget and how you actually live.

🐶 Busy family home? LVT could be your best fit.

💷 Keeping an eye on budget? Look at a good-quality laminate.

🪵 Want genuine wood underfoot? Engineered wood is hard to beat.

Don’t just choose a floor because you love the colour choose one that works for your home.

What are you currently deciding between? Drop it in the comments 👇

A great floor isn’t just about choosing a colour you like.

What’s underneath it, the quality of the product, how it flows through your home and most importantly how it’s installed can make a massive difference to the finished result.

If you’re about to spend thousands on new flooring, make sure you’re thinking about the whole job not just the floor you’re buying.

Save this before choosing your next floor 👌

Which of these do you think homeowners overlook the most?

What really goes into sanding a floor? A lot really a lot of my customers are surprised when they see actually how many sands and the detail that goes into sanding a floor, not just one sand and we are one there is a system to ensure the floor comes back to life look as new as possible.

Got a flooring project coming up and would like to work with us.

Does your wood floor need a refresh?

This oak floor was actually in pretty good condition but the small scratches and grey patches were signs that the protective finish was starting to wear away.

We sanded back the old finish, worked through the different sanding stages and then applied two coats of LOBA Speed to protect the wood again.

The result? A cleaner, lighter looking oak floor that’s protected and ready for years more use. 🙌

Sometimes your wooden floor doesn’t need replacing it just needs a little attention at the right time.

Wow what a transformation on this floor that was uneven pipes sticking out and needing a whole lot of prep work thanks to using the multi pro i can build up to 15mm in some place to get it level and for having such an amazing product that makes it easy to fit.

This project started with a tiled floor that needed some serious preparation before the new flooring could go down.
First, we mechanically ground the tiles to create a suitable surface, then applied UltraFloor products to level and prepare the subfloor properly. As always, the preparation stage is what sets the foundation for a long-lasting installation.
Once the floor was perfectly prepared, we fitted the stunning J2 Flooring Iconic Range – Kieder 80 Herringbone, finished with a traditional block border to frame the installation beautifully.
The combination of the herringbone pattern and block border gives this floor a timeless look that really suits the space.
Preparation ✔️
Precision ✔️
Attention to detail ✔️
A floor is only as good as the preparation underneath it, and this project is a perfect example of why we never cut corners.

What do you think of the finish?

What an incredible moment for our independent family business.

We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that SmartWood Flooring Scotland has been named a Finalist for Floor Installer of the Year at the National Flooring Awards 2026!

To be recognised amongst the very best in the flooring industry is something we’re incredibly proud of. Out of hundreds of entries from across the UK, making it through to the final is a huge achievement for us and a real reflection of the hard work, dedication and craftsmanship that goes into every project we complete.

From restoring tired old floorboards to installing stunning herringbone floors and intricate bespoke designs, we’ve always believed in doing things properly, never cutting corners, and treating every home as if it were our own.

This recognition isn’t just for us—it’s for every customer who has trusted us with their home, every person who has recommended us, supported our journey, liked our posts, shared our work, and cheered us on along the way.

Not even finished this floor yet… but made this video from our work so far and I had to share it.

We’ve sanded it back, filled it, and now it’s ready for Loba stain, EasyPrime, and x2 coats of 2K Supra.

Already picturing myself sitting in this beautiful space with a coffee, just admiring the finish when it’s complete ☕️

It’s going to completely transform this room. Stay tuned.

Got a flooring project coming up and would like to work with us.
