Ever wondered why your new flooring starts lifting, separating or making noises after only a short time?

This is exactly why.

The original click LVT wasn’t the problem… the subfloor was.

The builder had left the floor uneven and bouncy so every step put stress on the locking joints. Over time the tongues snapped the planks separated and the floor started peeling apart.

Our solution:
✔️ Removed the failed flooring
✔️ Installed 9mm plywood on the floorboards to create a solid base
✔️ Screeded the new extension side floor to get it perfectly level
✔️ Fitted brand new LVT on a subfloor built to last

A beautiful floor is only as good as what’s underneath it. You never see the preparation once the job is finished but it’s the difference between a floor that lasts 2 years and one that lasts 20.

This project started with a tiled floor that needed some serious preparation before the new flooring could go down.
First, we mechanically ground the tiles to create a suitable surface, then applied UltraFloor products to level and prepare the subfloor properly. As always, the preparation stage is what sets the foundation for a long-lasting installation.
Once the floor was perfectly prepared, we fitted the stunning J2 Flooring Iconic Range – Kieder 80 Herringbone, finished with a traditional block border to frame the installation beautifully.
The combination of the herringbone pattern and block border gives this floor a timeless look that really suits the space.

A floor is only as good as the preparation underneath it, and this project is a perfect example of why we never cut corners.

We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that SmartWood Flooring Scotland has been named a Finalist for Floor Installer of the Year at the National Flooring Awards 2026!

To be recognised amongst the very best in the flooring industry is something we’re incredibly proud of. Out of hundreds of entries from across the UK, making it through to the final is a huge achievement for us and a real reflection of the hard work, dedication and craftsmanship that goes into every project we complete.

From restoring tired old floorboards to installing stunning herringbone floors and intricate bespoke designs, we’ve always believed in doing things properly, never cutting corners, and treating every home as if it were our own.

Not even finished this floor yet… but made this video from our work so far and I had to share it.

We’ve sanded it back, filled it, and now it’s ready for Loba stain, EasyPrime, and x2 coats of 2K Supra.

Already picturing myself sitting in this beautiful space with a coffee, just admiring the finish when it’s complete ☕️

It’s going to completely transform this room. Stay tuned.

Most people only see the herringbone.
We see everything underneath it.

Before this J2 Flooring Naked Oak herringbone floor was fitted, the subfloor had to be right first.

✔️ DPM installed
✔️ Full prep work completed
✔️ Screeded smooth and level
✔️ Herringbone fitted with clean detail throughout

Herringbone exposes every imperfection, so the preparation has to be spot on from the start.

Simple. Clean. Timeless. 🤝

There’s a lot of flooring options out there, but nothing beats solid oak herringbone.
It’s not just about the look (even though it looks unreal) it’s about having a floor that’ll outlast trends daily life and even the next generation.
Fitted, sanded, and finished it’s the kind of floor that adds real character to a home.
