Not the prettiest part of keeping sheep, but one of the most important.
Today we vaccinated our flock against bluetongue as a precaution. With bluetongue circulating in the UK, we feel it’s important to do everything we can to protect the health and welfare of our sheep.
There’s a lot more to producing wool than the fleece itself — first and foremost, it’s about looking after the animals that produce it. Their welfare is, and always will be, paramount to us.

Welcome back to your first Sunday Spinspiration of Autumn.

And that is quite timely because I have written for PLY magazine again and it has just been published. This time it was all about plying silk so that got me thinking about how fabulous silk is to spin. So, have you ever spun silk?

Silk behaves very differently from wool. With no crimp to help the fibres grip together, it can feel wonderfully slippery — particularly when plying!

But don’t let that put you off. With good tension and a little patience, silk can make the most beautiful yarns or add extra sheen, strength and colour to a blended preparation.

I’d love to know… have you spun silk? What was your experience?
Or is it still on your “one day I’ll try that” list?
