Cadge & Relic Mother and daughter duo Carole and Rachel combine their creativity to produce innovative and bespoke glass art works, inspired by travel and nature

Carole has been working with glass since 1998 and her limitless creativity, boundless desire for knowledge and constant pursuit to challenge the conventional methods of warm glass are nothing less than inspiring. She creates bold, painterly and sometimes whimsical, yet always thought provoking art works. Carole's daughter Rachel, grew up watching her in admiration as her work evolved, and inspired

by this continual transformation, she aspired to learn and develop her skills. Encouraged by Carole, Rachel now has an extensive knowledge of glass and together they have created and developed an unusual and original idea, transforming an everyday photograph, into a unique work of art. Both Carole and Rachel have always been greatly influenced by the ever changing Scottish landscape and seascape, their love of travel and adventure has inspired their collaborative work. Their desire is to create personal and aesthetic collections that are affordable and to do so resourcefully, using recycled or re-claimed materials wherever possible. Combining their love of photography, colour, texture and pattern their creative potential is infinite, allowing them to capture and produce dynamic and innovative works of art to suit every style. Carole and Rachel's trading name evolved during a period of Scottish research, looking at culture, history and language. 'Cadge' – An early 17th century noun denoting an itinerant dealer, travelling from place to place. 'Relic' – An object surviving from an earlier time, especially one of historic interest.
