A hot week — and a huge effort on site
We’ve all felt the heat this week, but spare a thought for the team out there hand‑digging under the blazing sunshine. It’s been another week of steady, determined progress. They’ve now made it past the second BT internet box and cable run — a section that needed a lot of careful hand digging due to the BT lines and the main gas pipeline running alongside the culvert.
The good news is the digger has been able to make a comeback. As the culvert line moves away from the gas pipes, machinery can be used again, which is a massive help in speeding things along.
Looking ahead to Wednesday
We should see Tarmac being laid over the first completed section, alongside the reinstated kerb stones and cobbles — a really visible sign of progress.
What’s next
New bespoke pipes, bends and joiners are on their way, including an increased pipe size of 1 metre in diameter. These larger pipes will give extra capacity for water coming from the road gullies, helping rainwater run‑off join the stream flow more efficiently and improving resilience for the long term.
A quick safety update
With the footpath now closed between Boots and Peacocks, more people are naturally walking along Prince of Wales Road. To keep everyone safe, this short section of road will be closed to vehicles from Friday 29th May.
Traffic can still access Fore Street and all the businesses via Lower Union Road and Mill Street, so shops remain fully reachable while this temporary measure is in place.
And finally… festival weekend is here
Kingsbridge is primed and ready for the Food and Music Festival, with live music kicking off from 4.30pm on Friday 29th. The town is looking forward to welcoming everyone for a brilliant weekend of food, fun and community spirit.
