An Update - Quest to Fully Restore Ravenscraig Castle, Kirkcaldy, Fife Scotland

I attach a letter from our MSP David Torrence to the Chief Executive of Historic Environment Scotland putting the Ravenscraig Castle full restoration possibility back in HES' court. Thanks David! There are no guarantees it will go beyond this, but the least we should expect is a fully informed and considered response based on facts and science, not a 'postcode decision' and we won't die not knowing.

If there is a proper feasibility study undertaken that finds Ravenscraig Castle is a structurally sound candidate for restoration then the rest are just a prioritisation, and a funding issue:

- From the HES Budget, lottery funding, some esteemed gentlefolk and business people of Fife of some means, some Fife 'worthies' pitching in behind it like Ian Rankin, Val McDermid, Dougray Scott, Ewan MacGregor, Craig and Charlie Reid and Gordon Brown:)

The likes of the great businessmen Michael Beveridge, Sir Michael Nairn and Robert Philp left great legacies for the people of Kirkcaldy. We could do with the help of their counterparts today to help Kirkcaldy move forward and retain its historical treasures.

If you know any of these 'worthies' or anyone else you think could help with the proposal please draw it to their attention.

Thanks

John

EDITED: A bit of West Wemyss Mining History

Thanks to Tam and Calum for their advice; the stone has turned out to be a relic from West Wemyss mining; a hole was drilled into the rock and explosives inserted, the strength of which would vary according to need. The rock was discarded into the sea and the rock and hole worn smooth by time and tide. Others can still be found around the beaches of West Wemyss. They are also likely unique to West Wemyss.

Stone Anchor?

This stone was recently kindly donated to the Lang Toun Little Museum. It was found in West Wemyss and is likely a historic sea anchor, or possibly a beach mooring stone for a fishing boat.

It appears a bit round for a sea anchor which tend to be flatter.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

John
