SMALL INDEPENDENT SHOP. A VERY LARGE NUMBER OF PARCELS. 📦😁

Another busy week at Rhubarb, both in store and online, and we're finishing it with a rare feeling of accomplishment...

WE CAN SEE THE STOCKROOM FLOOR.🎉

Deliveries have finally been wrangled, everything is back in its rightful place (and, more importantly, somewhere we can actually find products it in a hurry, which is a first!).

A huge thank you to the lovely ladies at Thomson's Newsagents and Kirkcudbright Post Office for putting up with my frequent appearances across the road this week. I've practically moved in. 🫣

Parcels have been winging their way from Kirkcudbright all the way up to Kirkwall and south to Dawlish - and everywhere in between. Thank you for shopping with us, whether you've popped through our door or ordered from our little corner of the internet.

Now? The stockroom can fend for itself until Tuesday.

It's home, PJs, a quick pizza, feet up and an undemanding film. Ideally one where absolutely nobody needs anything from me 📺 🍕

FIRST WEEK BACK. FULL ON. 😂

It’s been super busy in the shop, the festive deliveries are still rolling in, and our carefully organised indie-shop system has been hanging by a very thin thread…even had to recruit Mr Rhubarb to lend a hand 😆

Then Fizzleskip Bunny finally arrived. (What a beauty) 🐰

The independent-only bunny who took the scenic route, caused much anticipation and arrived just as we were attempting to regain control. 😂

The good news? We still have a good stock of Fizzleskips — in store and online — so if you’ve been waiting patiently, now’s your moment. 🐰

But honestly? We wouldn’t have it any other way.

A busy shop, happy customers, new stock landing and Christmas creeping ever closer is exactly what being a small independent gift shop is all about.

🐰 WELL, SHE MADE IT. FINALLY. 🐰

Please welcome Fizzleskip Bunny to Rhubarb. 💚

We’re not entirely sure where she’s been.

We’re fairly certain she didn’t come directly here.

At one point we suspected she’d taken the scenic route, stopped for a coffee, admired the view and possibly joined a walking group. 😂

But after what can only be described as a Jellycat journey of epic proportions…

✨ FIZZLESKIP HAS ARRIVED. ✨

And honestly? She was worth the wait.

RIGHT… HOW DO WE RUN A SHOP AGAIN? 🤔😂

Two weeks away and we’ve apparently forgotten everything.

Where’s the till?
What’s the password?
Who ordered all this stuff?
And, most importantly… what time does the kettle go on?

Luckily, we’re pretty sure it’ll all come flooding back tomorrow.

Rhubarb reopens at 10am tomorrow — Tuesday 29th September. 🎉

We’re refreshed, the shelves are looking lovely and cosy season is officially ON. 🍂

So if you’re in Kirkcudbright and fancy a mooch around an independent gift shop packed with gifts, homeware, Jellycat, stationery, women’s clothing and plenty of lovely things you absolutely didn’t know you needed…

AND... WE'RE OFF. 🥂📚

The doors are closed, the till is silent and the next couple of weeks are officially ours.

After one seriously busy season, we just want to say a massive thank you for keeping us so busy. For shopping with us, ordering online, popping in for gifts, treats, Jellycats, candles, clothes and all the other bits you absolutely didn't know you needed.

We've loved it — but we're not going to lie... we're knackered.

So, for the most part, the next two weeks are looking like a pile of books, a cocktail (or two), a bit of pottering and absolutely no alarm clock. Bliss. 🍸

There's also a small amount of maintenance to tackle, because apparently the shop doesn't magically fix itself while we're busy. 🧐

And a little Fizzleskip update...🐰

For everyone who has one reserved, they should be ready and waiting for collection when we reopen. They appear to be taking the scenic route to Kirkcudbright, but I know they're on their way!
So don't worry - your Fizzleskip hasn't been
forgotten.

We'll be back Tuesday 29th September, rested, refreshed and ready to deal with half term, Halloween and then...
CHRISTMAS.

For now, though... we're off duty.

Well, that was a lovely first week of autumn. Calm, cosy and almost suspiciously civilised…

Which makes this the perfect time for some housekeeping news.

📣 We’ll be closing at 4pm NEXT Friday, 11th September, for our annual two-week shutdown.

And frankly, it’s not a moment too soon.

We are quite literally crawling over the finish line after a bonkers summer and are ready for some serious R&R, a little maintenance, a bit of sorting, and generally doing things that don’t involve a till, a computer or someone asking us if we have that Jellycat.

So, for the full two weeks, both the shop and our online shop will be closed. Messages will be answered when we return — we promise we’re not ignoring you, we’re just temporarily pretending we have no responsibilities.

We’ll be back open Tuesday 29th September, refreshed and ready to run headlong into autumn, half term and, inevitably, ALL THINGS FESTIVE. 🎄

So there’s absolutely no need to start rationing your candles… 😆

But if you have an emergency gift, treat or general Rhubarb-shaped requirement, you have exactly one week to stock up!

👻 Well, it’s officially spooky season…

And the new Halloween Jellycats have landed at Rhubarb! 🎃🖤

They’re here in store and will be in our online shop when I find a quick minute, but numbers are limited — so if you’ve already spotted your favourite, you know what to do…

🎟️ And just like that, our annual moonlighting career as a Fringe ticket office is over!

For the last few months we swapped gift wrapping and Jellycats for tickets, timetables and the increasingly important question of “So… which one would you choose?” 😂

It’s been lovely meeting so many of you and helping you navigate the wonderful world of Kirkcudbright Fringe — with its brilliant mix of discussion, music, magic, comedy and goodness knows what else. We’ve had some great conversations along the way and thoroughly enjoyed being part of it.

Now it’s over to you. We hope you have an enlightening, entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable weekend in, around and about our lovely town. 🎭

And if you get lost, hungry, thirsty or simply need to know where the heck you’re supposed to be next… pop in.

WELL… THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY. 🌧️😂

One minute we were clinging onto the last scraps of summer, and the next we’re standing in the middle of horizontal rain wondering where we left the cosy blankets.

So, with the weather very much making the decision for us… welcome to COSY SEASON at Rhubarb. 🍂🤎

The school holidays are over, normality has returned, and apparently Mother Nature has decided it’s time for candles, chunky knits, warm tones, soft textures and staying indoors pretending the rain isn’t happening.

Honestly, we’re quite alright with that.

Summer, it’s been emotional. Autumn… bring on the cosy. 🍁
