1858 (March) entire letter giving an eyewitness account of the riot in St Johns, Antigua. Martial Law was declared and a number of rioters were killed. The cause was the arrival of labourers from Barbuda looking for work in the dockyard which was resented by the Antiguan workers leading to a fight, which escalated. The letter is addressed to Lovell Langford Hodge in England who owned plantations on the island.

1848 letter from James Lewis in St Vincent to John Scoble, Anti Slavery Office in London. He reports 'that these islands are in a most deplorable situation owing to the depressed state of sugar.'
John Scoble one of the leaders of the anti-indenture movement and published several reports on the indentured workers conditions on plantation in the West Indies. He helped form the British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society and served as secretary from 1842 to 1852.

1803 entire letter from Bath in England to Philip Lucas in St Vincent with fine LYNDHURST 89 boxed mileage mark. Endorsed 'Pr Packet' and rated 1/9d.
Long letter from John Young in a clear hand mentions Bequia rent due from the representatives of the late Charles Warner. Charles John Warner of Bequia died in 1801 leaving his sugar estates to his sons Charles John and Thomas Hodge Warner.
