The Twopence Blue is ten times scarcer than the Penny Black and although the Penny Black rightfully remains the world’s most famous stamp, the Twopence Blue was issued at the same time and is often overlooked. The Twopence Blue was used to cover double rate postage between 1/2 -1OZ.
This example is a superb used four margin horizontal strip of three lettered PA-PC, with full selvedge and part sheet inscription at left. Each stamp neatly cancelled by a crisp black MC. A very rare and attractive exhibition piece.

The first Penny Black stamps were valid to use from 6 May 1840. With beautiful, precise engraving and classic simplicity, the Penny Black is the world's first adhesive postage stamp.
We are celebrating the 178th anniversary of the Penny Black with a fine selection from our latest stock.
