I need a little break. Don't we all from time to time! But sometimes when running your own business, it can be easy to forget that.
We're going to the Lakes for a few days, so just to let you know, the shop will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday (11th and 12th August) this week...sorry for any inconvenience.
Back open as normal from Thursday 13th 😊

2026 vintage has started early at Centopassi! As usual, the Grillo grapes of the Pietra Lunga vineyard are the first to be harvested, destined for the 2026 vintage of the always excellent single vineyard Rocce di Pietra Longa wine.

The most popular red at our July Tour de France themed tastings was this organic Alain Jaume Vacqueyras Grande Garrigue.
A classic Southern Rhone blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault, it is rich and full bodied but also balanced and elegant.

Vacqueyras of this quality can be a great alternative to Chateauneuf du Pape. It's Chateauneuf's immediate neighbour, same blend, very similar soils and microclimate, but less famous and usually more affordable.

This and around 250 other wines are on our shelves for you to choose from. Open until 5.30pm today (Saturday) with any help or advice you require when choosing something for your tastes and budget 😊

This was a big highlight of our second 'Tour de France' themed tasting of the month in the shop last night.
A superb single vineyard white Burgundy from Saint Veran in the Maconnais.
Barrel fermented and rich but in perfect balance with the fruit, and acidity, with a lovely texture on the palate and a lingering finish.
As the winemaker from Domaine des Deux Roches said to me at the Bancroft tasting last month "where else could you find a single vineyard white Burgundy of this quality at this price point?"

Yes it's exactly what it looks like!! 🙄😱🙈

That'll teach me not to come into the shop on my day off yesterday to do a few jobs! I wasn't planning on one of those jobs being to clean up a broken full bottle of Valpolicella which I accidentally knocked off the counter!

Naturally, it has left a massive stain, so everyone who comes into the shop this week is bound to ask me about it!

Oh well, the carpet was in need of a clean anyway!

Open Tuesday to Friday 11am-6pm and Saturday 11-5.30 with around 250 different (unbroken) wines to choose from.

If you are passing the shop in the next few days and you see the window blinds are down or partially down, please be assured that we are very much OPEN as usual, I'm just trying to keep the shop as cool as possible during the current hot weather, to protect the wines from getting too warm.

Open 11am-6pm Tuesday to Friday and 11-5.30 on Saturday 😊😎🥵🌞

New wines! 😀

I've got 5 new wines in the shop on the back of the Bancroft portfolio tasting on Tuesday...

Domaine des Vaublins Cremant de Loire
A delicious off dry but zesty and refreshing Loire fizz made from Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay. Looking forward to introducing this at the July French tastings.

Lobster Reef Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
A light and fruity summer Sauvignon at a good price. Not so pungent as many examples, just fresh and fruity.

Chateau Haut-Grelot Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux 2022
A classic Bordeaux Merlot /Cabernet blend, approachable and affordable claret.

Castellare di Castellina Chianti Classico 2024
A delightful Chianti from a producer whose wines I am familiar with, but haven't had their wines in the shop before, so really pleased to have this elegant juicy Tuscan red on the shelf.

Alan Jaume Vacqueyras Grande Garrigue 2023
I have been looking for a new Vacqueyras, as the one we used to have in is no longer available. It bridges the gap well between Cotes du Rhone and Chateauneuf du Pape, very similar blend and style to Chateauneuf but not as expensive. Another wine to introduce at the French tastings in July.

These are among approximately 250 wines to choose from in the shop, open today 11-5.30 with any help or advice you require when choosing something for your tastes and budget.

On Tuesday I was in London for the excellent Bancroft Wines Portfolio tasting at Lindley Hall, which was a really enjoyable event, with lots of great wines available for tasting, and over 70 producers present, who had travelled to be there in person to pour their wines, and talk about them.
It's always one of the best things about these tastings to be able to speak directly to the people behind the wines.

It was great to finally meet Ma**ca from Monte del Frà winery, over 5 years after we had a memorable online tasting evening with her back in February 2021.
It was also great to catch up with Alberto Graci from Etna for the second time this year!

In addition to these two, I especially enjoyed speaking with the representatives of Selbach-Oster and Eymann from Germany, Castellare di Castellina from Chianti Classico, Domaine Deux Roches from Burgundy, and Gaston Chiquet from Champagne.

Some of my highlights are pictured here and you will definitely be seeing some new wines on the shelves as a follow up, some arriving from Bancroft tomorrow!
