Hi Tom,
My name is Zoe, and last week the Met raided my home and arrested me under the 'Serious Organised Crime' act.
The crime? Booking a room in a community centre.

Kind of sweet they think Take Back Power is seriously organised. Less sweet though when you realise that booking a room in a community centre now puts students, retired teachers and care workers in the same category as human traffickers, money launderers and drug traffickers!
The police are making arrests under 'Serious Organised Crime' as they couldn't get through legislation to designate groups as "extreme criminal protest groups". Put simply, if this had gone through, they would've been able to ban groups like Take Back Power without actually having to proscribe them — as we've all seen how well that worked out for them. But when they failed to push this through, they fell back on 'Serious Organised Crime' as a close second.
The police have so far carried out 23 raids and 54 arrests (4 of which under the 'Serious Organised Crime' act) on Take Back Power. From all of these raids and arrests supporters like myself have had their tech seized.
People attending their first-ever training simply wanting to learn about the history of nonviolent resistance left their holding cell that night with no phone to their name. Some even had their laptops taken after the police raided their homes while locked up, and all this tech they had to replace from their own pockets.
Support Those Who Had Their Tech Seized!

These are devices that people rely on every single day to pay, stay in touch and find their way around. And the police took them away regardless. Many supporters of Take Back Power join because they know what it's like to live through the cost-of-living crisis.
Tom, can you chip in to reimburse those who have had to pay out of their pocket for this essential tech they had seized from them? I myself have already contributed and was one of those whose tech was seized at the first of many nonviolence raids.
Chip In: Get Their Tech Back!
All money raised will either go directly to those who have requested help with paying for their replacement or (far from the last time they will take supporters' tech) will be set aside in a fund for any future help needed by those who have their tech seized.
Thank you for all the help,
Zoe x
P.S If you have a little extra to give, please head over to Climate Action Support Pathway's crowdfunder! CASP offer support to Take Back Power and many other campaigns: from making sure there is always someone there to greet people outside the police station to helping people navigate a hostile legal system. They have been a great help to Take Back Power and any support is appreciated!

Many thanks to the man who donated a fantastic collection of books to Atticus yesterday. I was so overwhelmed I forgot to ask his name. The books were on a wonderful variety of subjects including how to raise a Jewish dog. For the rest, you will have to come into the shop and browse. Thank you again very much, you have helped the shop to survive another year.

A Riddle for Atticus translated by Emily Spinach.

Moððe word fræt. Me þæt þuhte
wrætlicu wyrd, þa ic þæt wundor gefrægn,
þæt se wyrm forswealg wera gied sumes,
þeof in þystro, þrymfæstne cwide
ond þæs strangan staþol. Stælgiest ne wæs
wihte Ăľy gleawra, Ăľe he Ăľam wordum swealg.
A moth eats words. I found that
An odd kind of wonder, when I heard it.
So the worm swallows up the songs we write,
Little thief in the dark, devours great speeches
And everything they’re built on. Little stealing guest –
You don’t get any cleverer, for all the words you swallow.
With spacing changed:
A moth eats words.
I found that
An odd kind of wonder, when I heard it.
So the worm swallows up the songs we write,
Little thief in the dark, devours great speeches
And everything they’re built on.
Little stealing guest –
You don’t get any cleverer, for all the words you swallow.
