What a wonderfully creative few days we’ve had! 💚✨🎨

From mixing, measuring and baking delicious, healthy homemade treats (with plenty of teamwork along the way!) to creating beautiful miniature gardens full of imagination and personalised photo frames, the children have been keeping busy from start to finish.

We love giving children the opportunity to explore different activities, learn new skills, express their creativity and, most importantly, have lots of fun with friends. It’s been lovely to see everyone so proud of what they’ve created and the confidence that shines through when they’re given the freedom to make something uniquely their own.

Here’s a little catch-up of some of the creative moments we’ve enjoyed over the last few days! 😃 📸💚

🧁🍓 The children have been very busy making... healthy cupcakes!!

There was a real buzz around the tables, as our young bakers rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in!

Working in mixed-age groups, the children baked their healthy fruit cupcakes completely from scratch. It was wonderful to see the older children naturally stepping into leadership roles as they helped, encouraged and guided the younger children, everyone working together as a team. The conversations, laughter and teamwork were just as important as the baking itself.

One of the biggest highlights of the day was seeing their excitement as they successfully cracked an egg! There were some very proud smiles all round. 🥚✨ Each group then chose their own fruit to add to their mixture, creating a delicious, healthier cupcake with their own personal twist before taking one home to enjoy with their families.

It's amazing how much learning can happen through something as simple as baking - measuring, mixing, making choices, building confidence, developing independence and learning to work together.

Sometimes the sweetest memories are the moments shared while making them. 💚

‘If you go down to the woods today, you’ll never believe your eyes…’ 🌿🎨

We love our woodland activities so much!

During our recent woodland visits, the children searched for inspiration for their artwork, making notes of the shapes, patterns, textures and colours they discovered in nature to influence their abstract paintings.

We gave them complete creative freedom to interpret their ideas however they wished. Some were inspired by bold pop-art styles, while others explored repeating patterns and natural textures.

Every child created something completely unique, and the finished artwork was absolutely fabulous! 💚

There is something truly magical about childhood spent outdoors. 🌿💚

In a world where so much of children’s free time is spent indoors and in front of screens, we believe there has never been a more important time to reconnect children with nature, adventure, imagination and each other. At Indigo Arts & Crafts, the outdoors isn’t simply a place for children to let off steam between activities - it is an integral part of everything we do.

We’re incredibly fortunate to have exclusive access to beautiful woodland, open fields, picnic areas and adventure playgrounds, giving children the freedom to climb, explore, create, discover and simply be children. Some of the most valuable learning doesn’t happen sitting at a table. It happens while following a woodland trail with friends:
🔍 Searching for tiny insects beneath a log
🍃 Identifying leaves, flowers and trees
🪶 Spotting birds and listening to birdsong
🌼 Collecting natural treasures to inspire artwork
🌳 Building dens, creating imaginary worlds and inventing games
💚 Sitting quietly for a moment, noticing the sounds, colours, patterns and beauty all around us

These experiences nurture far more than happy memories. Research continues to show that time spent in nature supports children’s mental health, reduces stress and anxiety, improves concentration, boosts creativity, develops resilience and problem-solving skills, strengthens motor skills and coordination, encourages teamwork and communication, and helps children develop confidence, empathy and a lifelong respect for the natural world. Whilst technology has its place, the outdoors reminds children that fun doesn’t always need a screen.

One of the things we treasure most is watching friendships grow naturally outdoors. Children of different ages working together, encouraging one another, sharing discoveries, solving challenges as a team and creating memories that often continue long after the holidays have ended. We passionately believe childhood should be filled with muddy knees, curious minds, fresh air, laughter, imagination and adventure.

Because when children are given the space to explore, wonder, create and connect with nature, they aren’t just playing, they’re building confidence. They’re developing life skills. They’re looking after their physical and mental wellbeing. They’re discovering who they are.

And that is something we will never stop believing in.

💚 Explore.
🌿 Discover.
✨ Imagine.
🎨 Create.
🌼 Grow.

Yesterday, we went on a rather special musical journey to Africa with our fabulous guest workshop leader, Beth De Lange.

To set the scene, Beth introduced us to the Baka people, who live in the rainforest of Cameroon. We learnt how, as hunter-gatherers, they need to be excellent listeners and fantastic team players in order to hunt animals and gather fruit, berries and honey high up in the trees. Beth explained how singing, drumming and dancing help to train their ears, strengthen teamwork and enable them to work together in perfect harmony.

The children stepped into role, imagining they were part of a tribe working together in the rainforest through the storytelling of the African folktale, Anansi and the Melon. Using a wide variety of instruments to represent the different characters, they watched, listened and worked together to find the rhythm and flow of the story. Beth also taught us a joyful African tribal children’s song, “Booma lena ee a ee eh!”, which means something like “My heart is happy… yippee yay!”

Inspired by Beth’s visit, the children then created their own rainmaker instruments from recycled materials, some of which were kindly donated by Caton Co Op.

A huge thank you to Beth for sharing such an enriching, engaging and memorable experience with us, and thank you to Caton Co-op for your generosity and continued support of our local community.

For any child interested in taking part in a drumming and percussion group, Beth teaches a children’s drumming group every Thursday during term time at Lancaster Music Centre (held at Ripley Sixth Form Centre), where Bobbie also works. There are also many other fantastic ensembles for children of all ages, including singing, strings, recorders, ukulele, brass and digital music-making. There’s even a wonderful music exploration group called Little Beatz, specially designed for younger children taking their very first musical steps!

Today, the children have been busy making... music through movement. 🥁✨ This morning we stepped into a world of storytelling, rhythm, singing and call-and-response as Beth De Lange led an unforgettable drumming adventure. Just a little glimpse of the magic… more photos coming soon!

Every child has interests they haven't discovered yet…

That's why our guest workshops are such an important part of Indigo. Throughout Holiday Club, children meet inspiring local artists, musicians and creative specialists who open the door to new skills, new ideas and new passions. Sometimes all it takes is one experience to spark a lifelong interest. ✨

Because you never know where creativity might lead. 💜

Let this summer be a summer of discovery for your children, visit our 2026 summer holiday club page for more:

☀️ Hello Summer...

We've been looking forward to you.

In just a few weeks' time there'll be muddy trainers by the door, paint on sleeves, flour in hair, sticky fingers, huge smiles and children proudly carrying home something they've spent all day creating. There'll be bug hunts, woodland adventures, baking sessions, nature trails, messy masterpieces and those magical moments where imaginations take over and anything feels possible.

That's what summer at Indigo is all about.

We don't believe childhood should be rushed, and we definitely don't believe summer should be spent staring at screens. We believe in giving children the freedom to create, explore, make friends, get wonderfully messy and discover just how amazing they really are.

Some children arrive excited. Some arrive a little nervous. Some have never picked up a paintbrush or made something from clay before. By the end of the day they're laughing together, proudly showing off their creations and already asking if they can come back tomorrow. Watching those friendships grow and confidence blossom is one of our favourite parts of every summer.

It's never just about the arts and crafts. It's about the stories they'll tell, the memories they'll make and the feeling of being completely free to be themselves.

If you're looking for somewhere your child can enjoy a proper childhood summer, we'd love to welcome them to Indigo.

What a wonderful way to finish our Easter Holiday Club on Friday! 🌿✨

The children had a brilliant day getting creative and working together, designing their own tote bags, inventing and leading their own reverse scavenger hunts, and collaborating to build an impressive giant nest! Alongside all of this, there was plenty of time for imaginative play, exploring, and developing those all-important large motor skills in our incredible outdoor space.

It really has been two fun-filled weeks in such a fantastic location, and we’re so grateful for every moment shared. We can hardly believe schools go back today!

Wishing all of our families the very best of luck as you head into the summer term, we hope it’s a happy and successful one for you all. 💛🌼
