I had a great time at the weekend with the loveliest group of ladies for Adi's hen do out at the fabulous northskyyurts Thanks so much for booking with us.

Homegrown. natural, pesticide free British flowers with a few smaller roses added in (most of ours are just too big apart from some pink ballerina ones!) . It's not often you get 'owt for nowt' but now is a good time to be collecting and drying grasses for later in the year. There are some really great ones growing wild right now like this lovely Yorkshire Fog AKA stripy pyjamas - the bottom of the stems are white with pink stripes!

We cut some of this by hand from the meadow, not too much as we keep large areas wilded as a food source, nesting and safe resting place for butterflies and other insects. On sunny days we see speckled wall, meadow brown and small skippers fluttering around. This is so important as the UK has lost approx 97% of its wildflower meadows over the last 70 years, stripping away essential breeding and feeding grounds!

I wish I had a better camera but this is the first pic of this year's baby kestrels which are just above the workshop. I'm not sure how many there are yet, probably at least three.

This is the difference growing with nature makes, not using pesticides and having wilded areas, I'll see them hunting voles, shrews, toads and larger insects in the meadow and amongst the flowers hovering above or perched on the tree branches ready to swoop down for their next meal a lot of the time when I'm picking flowers or on with the endless list of gardening jobs.

The babies are absolutely rubbish at flying and landing at first so we will be keeping an eye on them when they fledge but they are quick to learn so it will be lovely to see them improve over the month or so that they will stick around. If there's enough interest and any of you are wanting a bit of baby kestrel watching and sweet pea picking, coffee and cake we can pencil an afternoon in, just please comment below.

Yes, the season really is that short! We will have homegrown peonies available into next week, subject to availability, then these beautiful, seasonal blooms will be over for another year 💗

I'm sad in one way that peony season is so fleeting but that's also the joy of seasonality ... the waiting and anticipation is part of why fresh, seasonal flowers feel so special.

We are celebrating Pride month at our next workshop with the National Trust on 13 June at Clumber Park NT so do come and join us if you can. We will have some gorgeous, naturally homegrown, British flowers in a whole rainbow of colours to choose from including the flowers everyone's talking about at the moment after Dua Lipa's wedding, Icelandic.poppies. No prescriptive floristry copying a design, it's a relaxed creative, workshop, you'll make your own choices from a selection of seasonal flowers, arrange these into a vase and make a flower crown too so you can snap some great pics in for your socials! 🏳️‍🌈

Icelandic poppies are one of the most talked-about flowers right now after the fabulously stylish Dua Lipa chose these beauties for her wedding bouquet.

We grow these stunning blooms right here on our farm in S Yorks.
