As the autumn mists roll across the landscape and the evenings draw in, Cornwall begins to feel alive with its oldest legends.

​Our corner of the world has always been steeped in quiet folklore and seasonal mystery, and you can truly feel that enchanting energy inside our shop this time of year. Our shelves are filled with pieces inspired by nature's darker half: smoke-marked ceramics, curious found-wood carvings, protective gemstones, deep botanical scents, and shadowy wildlife illustrations that feel straight from a Cornish folk tale.

​It is the season for lighting candles, seeking out comforting treasures, and welcoming a gentle touch of autumn magic into your home.

We have a new Featured Artist with fabulous on our wall this month. This is what she tells us about herself:

My name is Laura a self-taught artist living in North Cornwall.

From a young age I could be found drawing or painting on whatever surface I could find, and I still find myself with the same urge to scribble, paint and spray on what I can find.

My art is inspired and visually captured whilst out gazing at the sky, landscapes and all the weird and wonderful that is within it.

I appear to have a healthy fascination with clouds, horses, the ocean, derelict and industrial buildings.

I enjoy working on cardboard and heavy-duty paper with a mixed media approach painting with Japanese watercolours, acrylic and emulsion paint, spray paint, ink and pen.

I usually find it hard to find black and white when our shop is so full of vibrant colour, but this week I managed to gather a brilliant collection of monochrome treasures across our shelves.

Introducing our featured artist for September at Zebediahs, ceramicist David Herd BA PGCE.

​David brings five decades of pottery experience to our collective, having worked with everything from early slip-cast designs in the 1980s to thrown stoneware and teaching design technology.

​Today, David focuses on one-off, hand-built ceramic pieces. He uses an initial sawdust firing followed by traditional pit firing, allowing raw smoke and flames to create subtle, organic colours and tactile textures across the clay. Because the pit firing process is so unpredictable and spontaneous, no two vessels can ever be recreated, giving each finished piece a distinct character.

Call in to Zebs in Launceston this month to see David's striking pit-fired ceramics in person and find an authentic, handcrafted addition to your home.
