Change is on the horizon!

This has been a long time coming, but it’s finally time for a new name.

HD Designs was just a placeholder while I figured out whether I could make anything of my art. Before this, I was a cake maker under the name HD Cakes (HD being my initials at the time), so when I started drawing, HD Designs just sort of happened!

But I’ve wanted a name that feels a bit more like me and what I do.

So, say hello to Doodles & Dales.

Long before it became my job I’ve always drawn and doodled, filling the margins of school workbooks and scribbling on stray pieces of paper. I take a lot of inspiration from the beauty of Yorkshire and the Dales, and although it isn’t where I’m from, Yorkshire is home.

I’ll be changing everything over gradually, so you’ll still see HD Designs popping up for a little while as I figure out the logistics and work alongside my stockists to change things over. So while this feels like an overwhelming task, this seemed a good place to start!

Put kettle on and say Ey Up to my newest product - A Reyt Yorkshire Tea Towel!

I designed and ordered these a while back, but lost confidence in them once they arrived. After hiding away in their box for a couple of months, they have finally started making their way out to shops.

Just Makers have moved to a fantastic new location in Craven Court Shopping Centre in Skipton! It was a pleasure being part of the shop in Ripley over the past year, and I’m excited to see what Skipton brings! Helen and the team have worked tirelessly to bring the beautiful new gallery-shop to life, and we loved visiting on their opening day to see the magic for ourselves!

Someone tell me how I suddenly have a two year old?!

It’s been a rollercoaster of a time raising Cassie and keeping business going (as much as possible!), balancing work and life, figuring out priorities, and keeping a hint of sanity! Cassie started nursery two days a week in September, so I pack as much work as possible into those days. She comes with me on deliveries and is getting to know my stockists very well, and is always determined to help out.

She’s funny and determined, cheeky and cheerful, loves animals and nature, and keeps me on my toes! Life is more chaotic, busier, messier, but definitely more joyful.

Happy Birthday to my tiny business partner, sidekick, and ray of sunshine! ☀️

Very excited to be participating in another Katherine Whitby event this summer. ‘Artfully Made’ will be held in the Bath House at RHS Garden Harlow Carr in Harrogate from the 27th June to the 29th July.

Harlow Carr Garden admission prices will apply, so bring a picnic and make a day of it!
