The softer and more balanced option, with carefully shaped shanks designed to give smooth communication and allow for subtle aids. Choose from short or medium shanks depending on the level of leverage you’re looking for.

💙 Fager Hector Hackamore
Designed for a more direct and precise feel, the Hector pairs Fager’s shaped shanks with a soft rubber nosepiece, which provides cushioning and helps distribute pressure comfortably across the nose. It’s also available with short or medium shanks.

Good luck at Defender Burghley Horse Trials, Holly, Butler and Louis! 🍀🏇

We know most of the horsey world is getting excited about Burghley Horse Trials, but we think we might be even more excited than most! Our sponsored event rider Holly Richardson Eventing is heading to Burghley with both of her 5* horses: Ballyneety Silver Service, better known as Butler at home, and Bally Louis, AKA Louis.

Holly and Butler finished an incredible 14th at Burghley last year on Butler’s 5* debut, so we can’t wait to see them back in action and building on that brilliant result. 🐴 Same horse. Different job. Same bit?

Does your horse wear the same bit for everything?

For some horses, the answer is absolutely yes. They’re happy and confident in the same set-up whether they’re schooling at home, jumping a course or galloping across country.

For others, their needs can change depending on the job they’re being asked to do.

Think about it…

🏠 Schooling at home
You might be working in a controlled environment, focusing on softness, suppleness and refining your communication.

🏇 Jumping
The pace changes, the horse may become more forward and you might need to make quicker adjustments while still allowing them the freedom to use their head and neck over a fence.

🌳 Cross-country
Add speed, adrenaline, undulating ground and the excitement of being out on course, and the horse you have underneath you can feel quite different to the one you ride in the arena at home!

That doesn’t automatically mean reaching for a “stronger” bit.

Sometimes it might be about choosing a different cheekpiece, mouthpiece or action that suits the type of communication you need for that particular job. And sometimes, the bit that works beautifully every day at home really is the best option for everything.

As with so much when it comes to bitting, it’s about the individual horse, the rider and what they’re asking them to do.
