WE’RE HIRING!
Clocktower & Freefield Post Office is looking for a friendly, reliable and enthusiastic person to join our team!
Location: Clocktower & Freefield Post Office (in the Toll Clock Shopping Centre)
Hours: Full-time (Part-time/casual hours will also be considered)
The Role - You’ll be working in a busy, customer-focused post office and card shop, providing a friendly and helpful service to our customers.
Duties include:
• Serving customers and providing excellent customer service
• Processing Post Office transactions and services
• Handling cash and card payments accurately
• Selling cards, stationery, art supplies and other shop products
• Keeping the shop and post office clean, tidy and well presented
• Replenishing stock and checking displays
About You - We’re looking for someone who is:
• Friendly, approachable and confident with customers
• Reliable, punctual and trustworthy
• Comfortable handling cash and payments
• Able to work accurately and responsibly
• Flexible with working hours when required
Previous retail or Post Office experience would be an advantage, but full training will be provided.

Changes to sending mail to Europe from 1st July
From 1st July, the cost and process for sending items to European destinations will change.
Similar to the arrangements already imposed on us for items sent to the USA, some European countries will require a customs fee to be paid by the sender before an item can be posted.
Please note: this is NOT a charge introduced by the Post Office or by Royal Mail. It is a fee imposed by the destination country.

With the limited 4G signal our Post Office is open.
HOWEVER, at certain times of the day the 4G network is busier and therefore transactions will take longer or may not be available.

We are seeing issues around 10.30-11.00, 12.30-1.30, and then at 5.00.

During these times transactions may be slower or completely unavailable.

We apologise for the inconvenience to our customers and ask for patience while we all wait for the islands Broadband connections to be restored.

Today we are open and operating, our systems are slow, but we are (for now) able to perform transactions.

Service Update – Freefield Post Office

Due to ongoing broadband issues affecting Shetland once again, the Freefield Post Office is currently offline.
We do have a backup 4G system in place, however the signal strength in Lerwick is unfortunately too weak at the moment to process transactions. We’ll continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as soon as there’s progress.

In the meantime, as the 4G network is stronger in Scalloway and Sandwick, those Post Offices may still be open and able to serve customers.

We are now able to accept all postage to the USA. However, please note the following changes to duty fees:

Parcels containing gifts with a combined value of $100 or more and all items being sold will incur a duty fee, which must be paid by the sender at the time of posting.

These duty charges vary depending on the contents and country of origin. For this reason, we require full and accurate details of each item in your parcel, including value and country of origin.
Important: Failure to provide accurate information may result in your parcel being returned or destroyed by U.S. customs.

This will add significant extra cost to sending parcels, but these changes are beyond our control and are a result of new U.S. import regulations.

Due to custom changes all Royal Mail and Parcel Force services to the USA have temporarily been suspended.
Until further notice we will therefore be unable to accept and process any items being sent to the USA.
EDIT- we have now been informed that cards & letters can be accepted.

We apologise for any inconvenience and will hopefully have processes in place to resume acceptance of these items soon.
