Guys..... just a polite wee reminder to mind our manners please! My poor mum got shouted at by some random man and I am genuinely disgusted. Its been a while since anyone kicked off and I've had to make one of these posts so let's remember to mind out manners and manage our expectations ok?! She is a pensioner! She is old! She also doesn't fix your watch so nothing is her fault!!
I'd been in this morning when an eco drive was handed in to be set. Unfortunately the guy handed it in with second hand jumping every 3 seconds.... meaning.... the cell needs charged. The watch can not be set whilst the capacitor lacks charge because the watch won't let you use the time setting function. It just wont engage. Blame citizen for making them that way.
Anywho, i went about my other work and popped the eco drive - meaning it charges from the sun - into the window so it can charge for a few hrs and then be set tomorrow. I do not have the sun in my workshop. I get that there's a curtain i go behind and its all mysterious but I genuinely don't have the sun back there. I can't even see the sun, so any eco drive you give me n that i need to charge, has to be put in the window. Or out in the street...... but that feels unsafe.
Now, as a favour to me because I'm dog sitting 3 of my friends dogs this wk, mum came up at 1 so I could go and get them walked etc. She's a super good mum, i really couldn't have kept the place on without her. And i then get a message about some guy SHOUTING AT MY 72 YEAR OLD MOTHER because his watch isn't working?! Like my guy, if you do not charge your watch, that is not my fault. It is definitely not my pensioner mothers fault! If your watch can not be set because its not been charged.... again, not my fault. And definitely not my pensioner mother's fault!
So he stormed out after mentioning 3 times that his watch is £500 n saying i shouldn't have put it in the window, I had damaged it (the button was out because I stopped it till it charged) and i should have stayed with it til it charged?!
So 1st of all, i fix watches of all values. It means nothing to me. I get £500 is a lot to some people for a watch but its nothing to the men who spend thousands on watches. I also wouldn't treat a Rolex any different than I'd treat a watch for someone who paid a tenner but adores their watch! Absolutely no one cares how much your watch cost. It won't get you special service, I won't be taking it to the sun to charge it for you.
2nd - In no world does the tenner you would pay to get your watch set mean i am going to stay with the watch until its charged and set. Lol you really think I'm going to sit in the shop for 6 hrs to watch a watch charge in the sun?! I do not babysit anyone's item. The watch doesn't care to be quite honest and eco droves take a good 5 hrs to charge to a minimum level and over 100 to fully charge on a window sill so im not giving up my next week to babysit one and not leave the shop to eat or sleep 😂 That is insane!
3rd - again, i do not have the sun in my workshop to charge it so if not the window then where?! Should I wear it and go lie down the beach?! That feels icky, I don't know where watches have been. I also can't get on with other jobs if I'm sunbathing.
4th - if you hand in an eco drive that is not keeping the seconds because the capacitor is drained then it stops whilst in the shop or, as was this case, stopping because the crown was out.... that is not your watch being damaged. Its you not keeping your watch charged. I did not drain the cell in 2 hrs. If it runs out of charge then it runs out. Thats why it was getting charged...... with the crown out so it didn't use power whilst it charged. I feel like we're just not understanding how eco drives work here!
So, absolutely vile behaviour. By all means, shout at me if shouting at women is your thing but under no circumstances will I ever tolerate anyone shouting at my effing elderly mother! Jesus!! Why do i even have to tell folk this?!
