When we first opened the shop, Peter Messer came in and we learnt of his extensive pigment collection. He inherited several jars from James Eddie who kept them before him, and from the colourmen who first ground them. Can you spot the old .cornelissen_and_son labels? At the Studio we have, on display only, 17 of those pigments. A small continuing lineage of colour. These bottled pigments are kindly being lent to us from Peter’s studio in Lewes and we are very lucky to have them here for the public to see. Thank you

We are very excited to have in the Studio, she will be hosting a natural pigment making workshop! Come and learn about the historical origins of pigment and make your own handcrafted watercolour paint.
The workshop will be held on Sunday, the 26th of July at 11am.

A few shots from the first event in the studio today! Thank you so much to Daria and Nataliia for hosting the pysanky workshop and to everyone who came and made some beautiful eggs. We raised £225 for and had a lovely afternoon learning and exploring this Ukrainian craft

We had a delivery of Da Vinci brushes to keep our Raphael and Omega brushes in good company. The paddle brushes are an amazing painting tool, the wood comes from a sustainable forester and we have a synthetic similar to hog, great for priming and covering large areas. The paddle brushes with the white bristles are intended for impasto, the bristles are strong, smooth and short, perfect for gels and pastes 💕
